Description

Our journey:
At Shell Energy, we believe that home energy matters.

Our home energy business was born out of Shell's acquisition of First Utility in 2018.

As an original challenger to the big energy suppliers, First Utility had a heritage of supplying great value energy and broadband to customers.

Shell Energy supplies 100% renewable electricity, as well as gas, smart home technology and broadband to British homes.

Who you'll work with:

We're ambitious with a pace to match, and as part of one of the world's largest companies, the opportunity and ability to push forward is greater than ever before.

We foster a culture of continuous improvement. Accountability matters, which means enabling transformation through autonomy to influence and see progress through.

Every day we work to provide an environment where all employees feel valued and included, and are able to nurture their talent as individuals and as part of a collaborative team.

Your part in our journey:

Your role will be varied but at its core, will involve the analysis and processing of a broad range of data from our energy business, via our extensive data warehouse and suite of datamarts.

Examples include financial accounts reporting, smart meter customer targeting, regulatory reporting to Ofgem and government, customer service call handling metrics and new smart product sales insight.

Most reporting involves working closely with the wider business, either to assist with operational targets and monitoring, as well as providing dashboards and MI insights, to inform the company's strategic decision making.

An eye for detail is essential as are good communication skills and a genuine interest in the UK energy market.

Specific technical skills include:

You will have a good understanding of database environments, being able to harness a range of methods to manipulate data and automate processes.

You must be competent at optimising code, with an understanding of query execution and how data structures & types can impact performance of large data operations.

You will understand the importance of adhering to coding standards and to document all analysis and processes.

You must be able to develop good working relationships with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and be able to articulate effectively and professionally at all times.

You will have excellent time management skills and be open to working with new technologies.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience of the UK Energy industry
  • Experience of Tableau
  • Exposure to AWS data architecture services
  • Experience with the source control tool e.g. Git and the Agile development methodology

Your part in the team:
The Data and Insights team is a multidisciplinary team of around 45 developers. The team includes data engineers, data analysts, data visualisation specialists and data scientists.

As well as maintaining a centralised data warehouse and reporting suite, we work with all parts of the business to enable data-driven decision-making, support tactical initiatives, and ultimately deliver a better experience for our customers.
