Description

The post holder is an experienced electrical engineer, responsible for the efficient operation of all Electrical services across Trust property.

You will be confident in working outside your predominant discipline, adapting to change and local pressure as necessary, to support the delivery of a complete efficient maintenance service within available budget limits.


To manage the provision of Electrical Engineering Services, ensuring that these are safe and available for their intended use, and that the Trust complies with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.


To work closely with the Estate Manager to ensure that the Trusts estate complies with Health Technical Memorandum's (HTM's), Codes of Practice, The Health Act, Care Quality Commission and meets patient and service needs.

To undertake the duties of Responsible Officer, Authorised Person and Competent Person across a range of electrical services areas.

To work closely with the Estate Manager, Estate Officer Compliance and the wider Estate and Facilities Management Services Team.

To work closely with Projects assisting with L/V H/V permits and isolations required so projects run smoothly.

You are required to comply with and maintain your awareness of the Trust's Policies and procedures relating to the Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection Act.


Oversee and monitor all electrical engineering installations, services, systems and work activities ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, NHS guidance, health and safety, standards, codes of practice, regulations and in particular the Electricity at Work Regulations.


Advise the Senior Estates Officer on all aspects of electrical services and electrical engineering systems ensuring compliance that those activities are carried out in the most cost effective and efficient way either through directly employed labour or external contract.


Implement, monitor and review planned preventative maintenance (PPM) processes for electrical and other services to ensure that the services operate to optimum reliability are delivered in the most cost effective way.

  • Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) regulations
  • Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
  • Critical alarm systems
  • Fire alarm detection systems.
  • Lightning protection systems.
  • Substation and switchroom earthing systems.
  • Lifts, hoists, and lifting equipment
  • Nurse call systems
  • Building management systems
  • 18thEdition BS7671 including EICR
  • Management of Contractors and specialist service contracts in connection with electrical services, systems and equipment.
  • Develop and manage documentation systems including policies, procedures, registers, log books and maintenance records within areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible as 'Authorised Person' for the Trust's High Voltage Electrical System HV and Low Voltage Electrical System LV as defined in HTM 0
  • Electrical Services and coordinate other 'Authorised Persons' for transfer of responsibility
  • Responsible for the maintenance and modification of Fire Alarm and Detection Systems ensuring compliance with HTM 05 and Firecode.
  • Manage and monitor Alarm Systems for critical fire, medical gases, plant and electrical system alarms.
  • Responsible as 'Designated Person' for Lifts as defined in HTM 08, Lift Regulations and LOLER regulations for the maintenance of all passenger and goods lifts and all other lifting equipment, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Oversee the maintenance of Bedhead services as defines in HTM 0
  • Manage the maintenance of the Nurse call system.
  • Manage the maintenance of the Building management System.
  • Provide professional / technical advice and best practice guidance to Trade staff for engineering systems and equipment.
