Description

The Park Centre for Breast Care is looking for an Admissions Supervisor to and join its busy Administration team in helping to cover maternity leave and provide a vital service in a friendly and supportive environment.


You will be responsible for providing an efficient and structured admissions service in a very busy cancer unit while maintaining a caring and understanding manner to all patients who require admission for surgery.


The post-holder will need to have experience in hospital booking procedures, and an understanding of cancer targets and the 18 week referral to treatment pathway.

A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel is also required. You must also be able to work well under pressure and in challenging conditions, with effective organisational skills.

You will also be experienced in managing your own workload, multi-tasking, adhering to tight timescales and working autonomously to deal with surgical cancellations and late additions to theatre lists.


The post-holder will be required to demonstrate a professional and sensitive manner at all times and have previous experience of working in a busy hospital/healthcare environment.

By the nature of the duties, this post requires maintaining strict confidentiality and you will need excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to deal with patients, their relatives and carers with courtesy and discretion.

Using own judgement and initiative to resolve capacity issues directly with Consultant escalating only when required.

To use own initiative to reorganise procedure lists when unexpected changes arise resulting in the postponement of patient procedures


To report on a daily basis to the Patient Access Service Manager any issues related to workload and activity which may directly impact on the service.

To reschedule, amend or cancel Inpatient appointments using Careflow the Trusts PAS and notifying all relevant parties.

To create waiting list entries, TCI's and investigations using Careflow the Trust PAS system following the patient's consultation.

To notify the Patient Access Service Manager of under-utilised theatre and clinic sessions.

To deal effectively with clinician's queries regarding patient appointments and details for clinics.


Supporting the Patient Access Service Manager with validating patients' pathways to ensure that all dates and stops are appropriately recorded in accordance with the patient pathway.

To support other members of the team and carry out training for new members of staff.


Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role and delegated or requested by the manager or supervisor, as the needs of the service require.

To provide support to the Patient Access Service Manager, deputising and acting as a support for information, advice and guidance on the relevant Patient Access Services.


Using specialist knowledge of administrative information systems and of multiple specialised clinical and non-clinical areas to provide advice and guidance to General Practitioners, Consultants, patients, parents/guardians, wards, medical secretaries and allied areas of the Trust on a daily basis regarding waiting list management.

To advise the Patient Access Service Manager of any issues relating to the management of breaches in UHSussex access policies relating to waiting list management for Inpatient Services
