Description
Primary Responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the nursing associate. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks.

This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
a.

Be responsible for delivering high quality, patient-centred, compassionate care under the leadership and direction of a practice nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) b.

To provide high-quality holistic and person-centred care to individuals c. To provide routine care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF d. To provide wound care, dressings (ulcer/Doppler etc) and other clinical tasks as required e. To support and deliver health promotion and well-being programmes including any opportunistic delivery f.

To maintain chronic disease registers and support clinics to promote patient safety whilst maximising QOF g. To support the practice nurse, implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for chronic disease patients h. To support both well woman and well man clinics i. To maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation k.

To process pathology results as required l. To support vaccination programmes for adults and children m. To support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policies n.

To support patients in the use of their prescribed medicines or over the counter medicines (within own scope of practice) o.

To perform clinical and record clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse p.

To provide flu vaccinations, ECGs and venepuncture and other relevant clinical tasks as required by the organisation in line with the competencies of the role a.

To support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies b. To provide support during minor operations as required c.

To act as a chaperone d. To ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation e. To support IPC processes in accordance with the practice IPC Policy f. To liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.) g.

To understand practice and departmental policies
