We are seeking to appoint a Clerk to Governors to join our school family.

Our current clerk is retiring and we are looking to appoint an organised and knowledgeable clerk to join us in time for a handover before taking over from September 2023.


Welbourn C of E Primary School is a caring and creative village school of 60 pupils, 15 staff, and one tortoise.

We are a Local Authority school with a strong and varied governing body and use GovernorHub for admin.


Time required:


  • Full governing body meetings (in person, approx. 2 hours, weekday evenings): normally 5 times per academic year
  • Committee meetings (currently online, approx. 2 hours, weekday evenings): 5 times per academic year
  • Time between meetings for preparation and minutes
  • This time is on a contract for 3.29 hours per week (flexible depending on weeks and time for meetings and preparation.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Close collaboration with the chair of governors, the headteacher and other governors.
  • Administrative and organisational support to the governing board.
  • Supporting the chair with preparation of meeting agendas and meeting papers.
  • Provision of guidance to ensure that the board works in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework, and understands the potential consequences for noncompliance.
  • Advice on procedural matters relating to the operation of the board
  • Provision of accurate minutes to reflect the discussion and decisions taken by the board. Ensuring records are kept up to date, particularly in relation to policies and date of reviews.

Your Skills:

We are looking for an experienced clerk with a commitment to ongoing training.

  • You will have excellent organisational skills with a knowledge of minute taking and record keeping
  • You will have knowledge and experience of governance procedures and legislative requirements.
  • You will have knowledge of the school system: structures, accountability and funding, along with an understanding of the core functions of a school governing board.
You will have strong interpersonal and advisory skills.

  • You will be highly organised, confidentially aware and able to keep to deadlines.
  • You will be an effective communicator with competent IT skills.
