Description

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary diabetes team to delivery high quality care to a high percentage of high/at risk patients, assisting the podiatrist to carry out foot care and health promotion and organise clinics.


  • To implement individual care plans for specialised patients with diabetes as delegated by podiatrists within the diabetes team, both in hospital and community settings.
  • Working autonomously in community clinics, GP surgeries, residential homes and domiciliary visits.
  • Work closely with the Orthotist/orthotic company to facilitate the service
  • To implement individual care plans for specialised patients with diabetes as delegated by podiatrists within the diabetes team, both in hospital and community settings.
  • Undertake home visits for housebound patients taking responsibility for own caseload ensuring regular treatment is received and appropriate referral made to podiatrist where problems arise.
  • Assist specialist podiatrists during nail surgery sessions including providing pre
- and post-operative preparation and information to patients, organisation of follow up appointments, assisting less mobile patients with footwear and hosiery where necessary

  • Coordinate and prioritise Orthotic footwear referrals and assist the Orthotist with fitting distribution and liaise with stockists regarding supplies
  • To work as part of the multidisciplinary diabetes team consisting of doctors, nurses, dietitians, orthotist, podiatrists and administrative staff
  • Based at North Tyneside General Hospital
  • Work within hospital and community clinics, GP practice, patient homes and care homes
  • To provide treatment as part of an individual patient care plan as prescribed by podiatrists within the specialist diabetes team. This includes nail cutting, filing, drilling, dressing and redressing wounds as directed by podiatrist, manufacture of simple orthotic devices.
  • Undertake home visits for housebound patients taking responsibility for own caseload ensuring regular treatment is received and appropriate referral made to podiatrist where problems arise.

  • Maintain sterile environment i.e. decontamination of equipment and clinical areas
