Fantastic Opportunity for a
Payroll Officer to join an Housing Client in Pitsea within the Payroll team.


You'll be assisting the Payroll team in delivering a comprehensive in-house payroll service for 3,300 employees using Access People XD (Core HR).

Working in a team of 8, to ensure the payroll is prepared, run and checked in an accurate and timely manner.

As a
Payroll Officer, your Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for processing of the monthly paper timesheets and expense claims. This includes printing, collating, checking claims for authorisation/errors and data entry in to Core HR.
  • Processing flexi worker payments, including administration of holiday pay claims and calculations.
  • Working under the guidance of the Payroll Officers to help with the processing of starters, leavers, salary changes, pensions, employee loans, flexible benefits, bonuses, union fees and any other adhoc adjustments.
  • Uploading temporary data, such as bonuses and holiday payments.
  • Checking trial payroll runs and exception reports and highlighting any amendments.
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly payroll reports.
  • Dealing with payroll queries by taking full responsibility for resolution and passing any critical issues on to the Payroll Officers.
  • Printing and sending paper payslips and P45s
  • Administration of the payroll mailbox and employee correspondence.
  • Develop good working relationships with our internal and external customers through the provision excellent customer service.
  • Any ad hoc duties and responsibilities as requested by the Head of Payroll Services.
To be a succesful Payroll officer, you'll require previous experience of working within an in-house payroll function.


You'll also need the following skills/experience:

  • Understanding of statutory deductions and the ability to perform manual payroll calculations.
  • Good numerical skills and proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet tight deadlines.
  • An understanding of the importance of discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Attention to detail and the capability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Customer focused and responsive with excellent communication skills.
  • Team player with a passion for payroll and a willingness to learn.
