This post exists to deliver joined up person centred care by working in partnership with the Associate Medical Director and Service Director to create an environment,

processes, and ways of working which ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care across the medical service group.

In conjunction with the Associate Medical Director, and the Deputy Associate Director of Patient Care, the post holder will lead on professional standards, governance, clinical workforce
planning, quality, patient safety, service and quality improvement and integration of team across the county.

The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of core patient and colleague standards across a large, complex countywide directorate, ensuring that a just culture and patient quality and safety are at the heart of our service group.


The post holder will be expected to work across both acute sites (YDH and Musgrove Park Hospital (MPH) and in community areas where the service groups are responsible for services, therefore the ability to travel will be essential.

Either YDH or MPH will be considered as core base for this post with travel expenses to cover work based travel across the county.

This post exists to deliver joined up person centred care by working in partnership with the Service Group Director and Associate Medical Director to create an environment where colleague satisfaction is high and the very best patient care can thrive.

The post holder will work both operationally and strategically supporting the medicine group across Somerset.

The group has a triumvirate management and leadership structure made up of the Associate Medical Director, Service Group Director and this Associate Director of Patient Care post.

Working with colleagues within the triumvirate they will develop and implement the countywide clinical strategy contributing to the overall Trust strategy and that of the Somerset system.


Leading on patient safety and standards, the Associate Director of patient care will also take a lead role in workforce planning and integration of teams.
