Applications are invited from forward thinking, enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking Physiotherapists with proven MSK experience, to join an expanding, dynamic and exciting service, working within GP Practices, as a Band 7 MSK First Contact Physiotherapist.

The successful applicants will work in an extended role, providing first contact to patients with MSK conditions (potentially with complex other medical needs).

Working independently they will have responsibility for patient care management including assessment, treatment and onward referral for diagnostic or secondary care services as required.

They will provide and advise on a range of treatment options within the scope of practice and competence and undertake injection therapy.

The post holder will participate in regular supervision and appraisals. There will be opportunity to develop and consolidate clinical skills in this role. A cohesive team approach is maintained thorough an established in-service training programme, peer support and regular team meetings.


The post holder will have proven postgraduate experience in this field of MSK and be able to use their own initiative and work independently.

They should have the desire to teach others, have good organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise tasks and effectively liaise with other health professionals.

Flexibility and innovation are a prerequisite for this post with a high value placed on individual initiative and responsibility.

You will be required to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its users which could include extended hours and participation in a weekend rota.


  • Take professional responsibility as a first contact Practitioner, with high level decision making and clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose and triage patients.
  • Manage a complex caseload (including patients with longterm conditions, comorbidities and multifactorial needs).
  • Be accountable for decisions and actions via HCPC registration, supported by a professional culture of peer networking/review and engagement in evidencebased practice.
  • Ensure care is proactive, preventive in focus and population based, with an emphasis on early intervention.
  • Provide care which is tailored to the individual needs. This would include, appraising the impact of individuals' clinical status on their general health, wellbeing, employment status (including in relation to function, physical activity, mobility and independence
  • Use a range of clinical skills which may include, nonmedical independent prescribing, joint / soft tissue injections and joint aspirations.
  • Provide learning opportunities for the whole multi professional team within primary care.
  • Exercise professional judgement, making, justifying and taking responsibility for decisions in unpredictable situations, including in the context of incomplete/contradictory information.
  • Ensure the highest standard of direct patient care which reflects the quality standards of the Practice and the Trust.
  • Participate in regular review and audit of the service delivered to ensure continual improvement.
  • To independently triage referrals into other specific services when required, using advanced clinical judgment to ensure the patients are appointed to the right healthcare professional or redirected to a more appropriate service if required.
