OVERVIEW:
About Rewilding Youth:
Rewilding Youth is a vibrant and innovative environmental project based in Kingston Upon Hull whose aim is to inspire and motivate young people to engage with the natural environments around them through running outdoor environmental and conservation activities, workshops and projects which aim to connect young people with their local green spaces.
Our aim is to equip young people with the passion, the motivation and the drive to become the next generation of environmental leaders and activists who will fight for the future of the planet.
Rewilding Youth also creates vocational pathways for young people wanting to work in the environmental sector through coordinating work placement opportunities, with potential progression onto traineeships and apprenticeships in environmentally related careers facilitated through our partnership with local further education providers
This is an exciting role for a self-motivated individual who shares our passion for youth-led solutions to the climate and environmental crisis to support the Rewilding Youth Team to deliver our innovative NCS project.
About our NCS META Programme:
Rewilding Youth, in partnership with project lead Child Dynamix, have secured funding through the National Citizenship Service (NCS) to run a series of 12-week programmes for young people aged 16-17 running from September 2023 to March 2025.
The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a government funded programme for 16-17 year olds and aims to promote a more cohesive, responsible and engaged society.
Our NCS META (Meaningful Experiences Through Action) programme is delivered in partnership with Child Dynamix and focused on supporting young people who may be struggling to engage in mainstream education, employment and training opportunities through facilitating a variety of outdoor, nature connection experiences, local community engagement, work placement opportunities, personal skills development and confidence building activities.
The Outdoor Education/Youth Support Worker will work with young people to develop and maintain a supportive and nurturing environment in which to help young people, previously disengaged from education, employment and training opportunities to grow in confidence, realise their potential and achieve their next steps in education or employment.
You will work closely with our lead partner organisation, Child Dynamix, to provide a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities located at The Hut Youth Centre and the Roundhouse at East Hull Community Farm and in school/college/community venues in the area.
Through group work, bespoke 1-2-1 sessions and regular check in's, you will support young people to identify core interests and aspirations as well as any barriers and challenges they feel are holding them back.
You will work with young people to help them identify the most appropriate pathways for them and support them to re-engage with education, employment or training.
You will organise and risk assess meaningful, educational experiences that will broaden horizons, raise aspiration and provide a unique insight into a number of alternative career types.
This will be a very practical programme which will invite students to ignite skills for problem solving, creative thinking and working both independently and as a team.
About the role:
The NCS META Programme Outdoor Education/Youth Support Worker will be responsible for guiding and supporting 5 x cohorts of 12 young people through the 5 x NCS META programmes between January 2024 and March 2025.
You will do this by example, showcasing the attitude and spirit that is needed to tackle the challenges that face participants in the programme and in life.
You must be enthusiastic and organised in relating to each young person within their team and encouraging full participation in the programme.
You should be passionate about young people and making a difference in their lives.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
