We are working with United Learning to find a Attendance Officer (12 month contract) to manage attendance and transition for pupils in Key Stage 3.

United Learning have a solid reputation as an employer who invests in training and development. Manchester Academy is a forward thinking 11-16 school staffed by a committed and welcoming team.


You will work in a team of three at Manchester Academy and take responsibility for the attendance of KS3 pupils and transition into the school.


This role would suit someone with experience of working with children and families, an understanding of using data to improve progress and great people skills.

Important Details:


  • Salary is £23,252 £27,25
  • The role is all year round.
  • One year contract. There may be other opportunities within the Manchester and Salford team following this.
  • Some flexibility on hours e.g. around the school run.
  • 37.5 hours a week 08:0016:00.

Duties of the Attendance Officer:


  • Support with Key Stage 3 attendance, punctuality, and persistent absence.
  • Lead and support Attendance Meetings with parents/ carers
  • Organise and attend home visits to support Attendance.
  • Prepare documentation for Fixed Penalty notices.
  • Report attendance to key stakeholders weekly, monthly, half termly and annually deliver assemblies to raise the profile of Attendance across the school.
  • Keep accurate record of interventions for students, especially severe and persistent absentees.
  • Day to day management and quality assurance of the registers.
  • Attend the Safer Schools Partnership.
  • Liaise with the Local Authority when required for Attendance.
  • Support the Induction process by collating data from primary school intake data.
  • Support data collection of all primary students the enrolment process into the Academy.
  • Support summer school and transition events during the academic year 'Open Evening' / 'Coffee and Cake'.
  • Support in the recruitment process regarding all communication with parents and carers
  • Manage communication to parents and publicity regarding careers and KS3 activities.
  • Liaise with the Local Authority when required for Attendance.
  • Gather information for PEX (permanent exclusion process) for the student, Leaders, Governors and United Learning, and other external agencies when requested.
  • Update the weekly tracker (Personal Development) and share with key stakeholders.
  • Assist with the updating of year noticeboards and year tracker.
  • Produce half termly Governors Report including suspensions analysis and disruption free learning.
  • Produce the half termly escalation data with the Assistant Vice Principal.
  • In the absence of the Attendance Lead
  • Update records weekly and produce Hot Spots timetable across the academy day.
  • Share list of merit certificate students with the main office.
  • Have minibus training and support of Primary Transition and Y
  • Assist with the period 6 supervision of students out of lesson times, e.g., clubs.
  • Administer first aid as required.

The Attendance Officer Must:


  • Have a minimum of 5A
  • C GCSE (or equivalent) grades including English and Maths.
  • Show initiative and empower others to show initiative.
  • Understand how data is used to track pastoral and academic progress.
  • Understand relevant legislation concerning safeguarding.
  • Take part in all relevant training with a focus on First Aid and Team-Teach.
  • Have experience of working directly with children and families.
  • Understand issues around diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Have experience of working with young people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be extremely well organised and able to prioritise a busy workload.
  • Work as part of a team and individually.
  • Hold others to account whilst maintaining positive relationships.
  • Be resilience.
  • Have good IT skills.
  • Have a good attendance and punctuality record.

An Advantage but not Essential:


  • Experience of working with young people to improve academic progress.
  • Be able to work outside the usual working hours on occasion.
