My client is recruiting for a hardworking and innovative Attendance & Admin Officer to work at their high school

The role is to start from ASAP

This is a full-time position to work from 8am-4pm Monday

  • Friday.
This is term time only + 5 training days +1 week to be worked during the school holidays

  • A current enhanced DBS certificate/ subscription to the update service
  • Recent attendance & admin experience, ideally working within a school or college
  • Experience using SIMS
  • Experience using Microsoft Office

Main duties include but are not limited to:
To work alongside key school staff to promote excellent attendance.

To ensure that the attendance of students is accurately monitored and recorded, in accordance with Government guidelines.


To assist with administrative duties as directed by the School Administration Manager during periods of significant pressure including covering absent colleagues within the administration team.

Attendance and Punctuality duties

  • To maintain accurate student attendance and lateness records with responsibility for the administration of student attendance within SIMS/Lesson Monitor and the daily registration of students.
  • Ensure the school's attendance procedures are being fulfilled.
  • Ensure all registers are completed with relevant marks in SIMs on time and all registers are closed.
  • To be the first point of contact for all student attendance and punctuality liaising with Key Stage Administrators.
  • Ensure that the school's first day of absence is recorded accurately.
  • To investigate incidents of truancy and patterns of absence (both within and outside school).
  • To monitor extended day attendance and to follow up (with Key Stage Administrators & respective Pastoral teams) aspects of truancy.
  • To be the first point of contact for all students regarding punctuality.
  • To undertake late duties for students in Y711 including investigating and monitoring student lateness to school.
  • To hold uptodate copies of daily attendance registers in case of emergency evacuation and to assist in school emergencies, contacting emergency services, as and when required.
  • Reducing levels of unauthorised absence and lateness, reflecting the policies and values of Featherstone High School.
  • To monitor and improve attendance, particularly of those moving towards being at or below 95% and those who are persistently absent and using the full range of strategies.

These include but are not limited to:

Attendance Contracts, Fixed Penalty Notices - sent to L.A, Carrying out Home Visits, Parent Contract Meetings, Stage three collaborations - sent to L.

A, etc

  • In cases of poor school attendance and/or welfare issues to be proactive in assessing the situation and liaising with the appropriate professionals when students, may require additional support (e.g. Social Inclusion Department (SID) and Pastoral Team).
  • To meet, minute, and coordinate meetings with Parents, Pastoral Team, Social Inclusion Department, of students who are PA's (under 90%) to address issues and to implement appropriate and agreed strategies to improve attendance rates.
  • To ensure that the attendance data is accurate and up to date for the school census and agreed data runs.
  • To produce fortnightly attendance and absence reports for respective year team meetings including extended day attendance and absence.
  • To maintain a weekly PA spreadsheet that includes uptodate information on action taken to improve the attendance of PA students.
  • To ensure that the school's attendance and authorised absence targets are met.
  • To keep up to date with current Legislation related to attendance to schools ensuring that staff, governors, and parents/carers are informed where necessary.
  • Work with individual students, as appropriate contributing to specific interventions to encourage improved attendance and punctuality. Implementing a plan of action to help resolve problems and referral to appropriate agencies if necessary.
  • To be responsible for the maintenance of the school waiting list in liaison with the Assistant Headteacher and the LA admissions team.
  • To facilitate all arrangements for inyear admissions (Years 711) including appointments with the Pastoral Teams, ensuring that all relevant paperwork is produced
  • To liaise with the Pastoral Team to arrange the Pre-Admission testing process.
  • To coordinate all admissions and appeals, including the preparation of reports, liaising with the LA on behalf of the school.
  • Year 7 admissions rejecting or accepting all sibling claims via SAM
  • To ensure that references and student files (including SENCO/ child protection files) are requested from previous schools including an electronic file using the S2S system for new inyear admissions.
  • To ensure student files are sent (including SEN/child protection files) to appropriate destinations when students leave.
