This is an exciting opportunity to spend 12 months working in the Strategy Directorate of Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, gaining insight and experience across a variety of departments.

It is aimed at individuals seeking a placement for their degree programme, or someone who has recently completed their degree and who wishes to gain experience of both the NHS and strategy.

The Strategy Directorate is responsible for setting the Trust's strategic direction, ensuring that all programmes deliver against the strategic and operational objectives of the Trust.


The Directorate consists of:

the Transformation team, who work across the organisation to support improvements to the way in which we deliver care; the Communications team who are responsible for internal and external strategic messaging, ensuring our staff, patients and partners are kept fully informed; and the Partnership team, who build key relationships, connecting the Trust and spotting links and synergies with system partners, again to create and develop services which better serve our population.

We are a very highly regarded team in HCT, supportive and friendly, and keen to support the development of team members.


  • Work directly with the Assistant Director of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development, with exposure to senior meetings and staff including Director's meetings.
  • Work and support across our strategy, business development, transformation, and communication departments.
  • Spend time working on specific projects and be guided by structured goals and objectives, supporting delivery of inspiring projects.
  • Gain experience of working in a fastpaced corporate area, supporting the delivery of healthcare.
  • Develop your skills and confidence.
  • Explore and contribute to projects within the directorate that interest you.

  • Prepare drafts for a range of materials, including internal and external papers, reports, presentations, newsletters, and web content, seeking advice where necessary. This will require concentration when writing, analysing and checking documents
  • Undertake deskbased research on local, regional and national healthcare directives including reviewing board papers and policies
  • Draft briefing documents and minutes
  • Attend strategy and engagement community events and support the strategy team to seek views on various projects
  • Provide support to the strategy team so that we can deliver effective advice and guidance to colleagues across the organisation
  • Assist with committee meetings (draft papers/create agenda, organise dates / venues arrange guest speakers etc)
  • Support with communication and engagement plans, tracking stakeholder engagement
  • Identify and take responsibility for your own learning requirements in line with the role
  • Act as a supportive member of the team at all times
