JOB OVERVIEW
The Welfare Officer is a key role within the Student Support Team. The post holder will support the day-to-day running of the Welfare provision on campus and provide general administrate duties. In addition, this position will also support the wider Student Experience team as required.


ABOUT THE ROLE

Welfare & Safeguarding

  • To deal with welfarerelated issues appropriately and refer to DSL/DDSL as required.
  • Coordinate the support for students who are under the age of 18, ensuring that they are safe and are accounted for daily.
  • To provide a high level of pastoral care, supporting students with welfare and health issues through physical, emotional and mental health support.
  • To have a good understanding and awareness of the procedures and policies associated with wellbeing and safeguarding.
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify and support students with additional needs due to health / SEND.
  • To coordinate the process for student Health Registration, working in collaboration with the local GP practice to ensure that all students are registered on the NHS system.
  • To assist with screening medical needs, writing support plans and assisting students to access to healthcare professionals.
  • To assist with the planning and implementation of an annual schedule of welfare events and promotional activities, liaising with external agencies to actively engage students in the promotion of health and wellbeing.
  • To ensure that all students are safeguarded according to the Child Protection Policy, Safeguarding Policy and associated welfare policies.
  • To lead on the partnership with College Guardians, organising regular events and sessions in collaboration with the College Guardians.
  • To assist students with completing Mitigating Circumstances Forms and to attend Mitigating Circumstances meetings.
  • To support the membership of the Student Staff Liaison Committee and regular meetings.
  • Respond to First Aid emergencies and unwell students and decide on the appropriate course of action. Support students to attend appointments if required.
  • Support with the arrivals process to ensure that all students are appropriately supported upon arrival in the UK.
  • To deal, when required, with outofoffice hours queries regarding student arrivals (to be part of the 'on call' rota for arrivals).
  • When required, deal with welfarerelated issues outside of normal office hours.
  • To manage a caseload of students, providing support where appropriate.

Accommodation

  • To provide a complementary service throughout the accommodation that enhances and extends existing welfare provision.
  • Ensure that student details (emergency contact details, accommodation address, telephone numbers etc.) are inputted accurately and efficiently and maintained throughout the year.
  • To be the first point of contact for accommodation queries, liaising with providers to ensure that issues are dealt with appropriately.
  • Attend regular meetings with accommodation providers.

ABOUT YOU

  • Level 2 Safeguarding (Essential)
  • Level 3 qualification (Desirable)
  • Experience in providing welfare, emotional and pastoral care to students.
  • Working under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Working with vulnerable groups.
  • Experience of working in administration (Essential)
  • Experience of working with staff and students in an education environment (Desirable)
