Description
Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive type of brain tumour, with a median survival of 15 months. The devastating prognosis, the physical and emotional consequences and the socio-economic cost are among the highest in oncology. Surgery followed by chemoradiotherapy is the standard-of-care treatment, but it fails to cure patients. A paradigm shift is needed after decades of failed attempts.

As such, the Neuro-oncology programme in Manchester has expanded considerably and we now have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Clinical Fellow to work on a novel programme of clinical and translational research in neuro-oncology, under the supervision of Dr Gerben Borst.

The post-holder must be medically qualified and should have an interest in research and clinical trials for patients with glioblastoma.

The Clinical Research Fellow will participate in neuro-oncology cancer clinics and facilitate all aspects of the patient pathway within the trials.

They will be expected to develop clinically focused research projects; in particular, they will study the impact of preoperative treatment strategies for glioblastoma, including novel fractionation, technologies, new agents & RT drug combinations radiotherapy.

They will review clinical and translational data, specifically imaging and sample analysis. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to clinical meetings and any other relevant trial planning or delivery meetings.

The post-holder will work closely with other members of the respective multidisciplinary teams and will support the clinical oncology consultants, surgeons, pathologists, research nurses, therapists, registrars, radiologists, radiographers, and a trial manager to deliver the clinical trial portfolio.

The fellow will be expected to liaise with academic and industry partners, drive national and international collaborations and lead on the development of innovative research projects.

The post-holder will be expected to have some degree of flexibility and to work with the extended team to deliver patient care.
