Job description:

We're looking for a Head of Security to join our team at Wimbledon.

You role is to work with key suppliers, internal and external stakeholders to plan and deliver the security requirements of the AELTC and The Championships.


What you will be doing

  • Support and deliver against the AELTC business objectives that are set on an annual basis.
  • Coordinate and integrate all security activity at AELTC Venues yearround and through the transition into and out of The Championships.
  • You'll work with other industry professionals and venue operators to ensure that The Championships remains at the pinnacle of sport and retains its reputation for excellence in delivery.
  • Coordinate operating procedures to inform a strategic, robust, and integrated C3 plan.
  • Contribute to planning and documentation including search protocols, perimeter security, emergency management plans, gate entry procedures, accreditation, door access control, stewarding and security group operational plans and deployments.
  • Design and deliver security operations to the high standards expected at AELTC whilst being accountable for budgetary requirements and resilience.
  • Audit and quality assure the agreed KPIs and associated performance measures of security operator contracts.
  • You'll be required to attend and support Championships Working Groups to deliver an outstanding experience, continually raising the bar and in turn, driving up our guest satisfaction metrics.
  • Oversight of an inhouse security team of twenty with direct line management of two deputy Head of Security colleagues.
  • Working with the Head of Venue Operations and Head of Championships Development to contribute to the development of the Qualifying competition and its transition from Roehampton to Wimbledon Park.
  • Actively contribute to The Championships integrated plan and readiness programme.
  • On a daytoday basis, you'll be working with the Head of Venue Operations to ensure safety and security plans are integrated, risks are managed, and the operation of our Venues is compliant.
  • You'll monitor local, national, and international security environments to ensure that the requirements for AELTC and The Championships are relevant, monitored, and resilient.
  • Act as deputy to the Operations Director where required.

About you:


  • You'll have extensive experience of planning and delivering a security operation for major events in stadia and nonstadia Venues.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of best practices, working with stakeholders, procuring, and managing suppliers and high standards of operational governance.
  • You'll need to have excellent communication skills and have a solid understanding of the role security plays in the delivery of a yearround business and major events.
  • You will exhibit the highest levels of personal integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism to represent the AELTC with strategic partners including the Metropolitan Police, intelligence, threat and risk management organisations, the Boroughs of Merton and Wandsworth and all blue light operators.
  • Adept at managing complex issues, multiple venues, and groups of stakeholders, you'll have demonstrable experience of planning, delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Your networks and experience gathered in previous roles will bring relevant added value to the work of AELTC and the staging of The Championships.
  • You will have experience of designing a security operation from scratch as well as inheriting and improving existing security requirements.
  • People management of workforce on a full time, part time and freelance basis has been an integral part of your career.
  • You'll have excellent decisionmaking skills, the ability to navigate complex issues and generate workable solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Experience of embedding a guest experience culture across multiple security operators whose volume of group peaks and troughs over time.
  • A recognised leader with the ability to captivate and convince an audience, you'll have a proven track record in complex negotiations and commercial discussions.
