About the role


A new opportunity has arisen for a Data & Machine Technology Platform Lead (TPL) who can work in partnership with the Business Platform Lead (BPL) for the Core sub-platform and the TPL and BPL of the Enablement sub-platform to transform the Group's data assets through modernisation & simplification of the estate and adoption of cloud capabilities.


Whilst the BPL delivers the vision for the Platform and is accountable for delivery outcomes, the TPL leads all of the engineering and technology activity, and settles the way in which outcomes are met through the technical designs, engineering and agile methods used by the engineering workforce.

Join us in Digital Channel, Infrastructure and Data where you'll:

  • Build the technical vision and platform architecture that supports the Group data and tech strategy including adoption of public and private cloud
  • Deliver plan and roadmap for the simplification and decommission of nonstrategic technologies inside and outside the DML Platform in support of the technology simplification agenda.
  • Support the evolution of the data products including the plans to decommission the legacy data assets they replace
  • Role model the future of analytics, AI and ML in financial services, acting as the technical authority for opportunities across the Group advocating for the capability
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to ensure data plays a key enablement role in technical design and is coordinated into business strategies with constant alignment to drive enablement of business outcomes
  • Work in open partnership with cloud, security, risk and technology teams to deliver at pace
  • Implement appropriate risk and control processes for a modern cloud based platform, challenging Group risk appetite to achieve data capabilities with mínimal barriers
  • Hold overall responsibility for growing the skills of an engaged, diverse engineering workforce, by attracting, retaining and developing talent, focusing on insourcing key capability to significantly impact the permanent to partner ratio for technical skills within the platform, both in the UK and India
  • Ability to handle large scale contracts and negotiations as well as run the logistics and cost base that comes with a large scale team
  • Build and maintain relationships of trust with senior executive collaborators. Identify priorities and challenges, engaging fully in the discussion and embedding data capabilities in strategic discussion
What we need from you

  • Outstanding engineering leadership skills and an effective network, with a passion for team development in order to build and hire a hardworking team, with a nonhierarchical culture of teamwork, transparency and trust across the team
  • Experience maintaining excellence in run / live support bringing to bear DevOps and SRE where appropriate, and leading on platform security threats
  • Engineering experience and knowledge across cloud and containerbased platforms to deliver data & analytics capability
  • Experience developing, embedding and maintaining technical capabilities that deliver on and exceed user experience expectations and realise commercial value
