Overview of the role:

Reporting to the Contract Manager.

We are seeking a highly motivated, confident and safety conscious individual to become a General Operative at a fast paced drinks manufacturing plant.

The role will be to manage the recycling produced throughout the manufacturing plant, by sorting, prepping and bulking various resources such as cardboard, plastics, glass and wood

You will be responsible for the safe operation of plant in in the recycling areas such as balers, compactors and powered manual handling aids

You will be responsible for the housekeeping and record keeping of all recycling areas on site


Day to day of the role:

  • Compliance with all Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • To be primarily responsible for their own safety but also aware of how individual actions in regards to operating safely may impact on other team members.
  • To assist with and help to maintain high standards in regards to housekeeping by actively contributing towards a "Clean as We Go" policy.
  • To be aware of the escalation processes for reporting health and safety issues and understand how to report any incidents relating to health & safety including accident reporting
  • To wear and maintain P.P.E (uniform) in a clean and serviceable condition, and to ensure that any additional safety P.P.E is used correctly as dictated by the task being completed.
  • Only to operate equipment that they have been trained on and have the authority to use, ensuring that any pre or post operational checks are completed and any faults are reported to a relevant and competent person.
  • To comply with current guidelines and best practice when conducting any manual handling activities to reduce the risk to both individual and other team members.
  • To complete all operational duties within the guidelines identified for each process ensuring that wherever possible performance targets are met or exceeded.
  • To remain vigilant at every stage of the work flow process, and to challenge anything that may result in service failure or complaints from the customer.
  • To raise any concerns relating to service failure immediately with their immediate reports.
  • To be an active team member assisting the contract in it's achievement of daily operational objectives and goals.
  • To understand the contracts objectives and how the jobholder contributes to and influences their achievement.
  • Routinely demonstrates high personal standards in particular in the area of timekeeping and attendance.
  • To communicate effectively with other team members, internal and external customers, demonstrating open and constructive views.
  • Demonstrates clear behaviours that can be identified by his/her colleagues / line managers/ customers to show that the jobholder act's as a team member who takes pride in their job and the service they provide.
  • To assist new and existing team members in sharing experience and ideas.
  • To report to the Contract Supervisor when taking meal breaks and rest breaks
  • Compliance with all Veolia policies and procedures

Required skills for this role:


  • Industrial site experience
  • Knowledge of H&S requirements
  • UK Driving Licence
  • Work alone or as part of a team
  • Work shifts 24/6 cover required within the team
  • Have own transport to site

Job Types:

£11.00-£12.30 per hour
