  • The Manchester College has many campus locations across Greater Manchester, each with its own specialist cuttingedge facilities within a friendly and supportive environment. We are the largest Further Education College in the UK providing education and training to a wide range of learners.

We now have an exciting opportunity at our Openshaw campus to join our Supported Learning Department as a Senior SEND Support Practitioner on a permanent, full time (37 hours per week) basis.**The Supported Learning Department continues to experience significant growth being the number one choice for the majority of High Needs and students with SEND across Greater Manchester.


As directed by the ALS Manager you will meet the support needs of individual learners, ensuring that they receive high quality, efficient support and positive learning experiences.

As with the Support Practitioner, you will provide learning support and ensure the holistic wellbeing of individual or small groups of learners via in
- class and out of class support as appropriate, carrying out support interviews, formulating personal learning plans and assessing progress against learning and support targets to ensure learners are achieving in line with their peers. Support practitioners will actively contribute to learner reviews on the effectiveness of support in the learning environment.


In addition, the Senior Support Practitioner will support managers and teachers to positively impact on inclusive teaching, learning and assessment experiences of SEN/D learners through shared planning and recording, effective multi-discipline communication and student advocacy.

The SSSP will research and promote a range of effective support strategies to empower students and teachers through leading teaching and learning sets, CPD and disseminating good practice to others in a consultative role.

Support could be provided for all of the College's divisions including 16-19, Adults, H.E. and Apprentices.

In order to do this, you will need:

  • Minimum Level 3 Learning Support qualification or willingness to achieve within an agreed period or Minimum of a Level 3 Specialist support qualification in two specialist support areas. (or willingness to achieve within an agreed period)
  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
  • Willingness to work towards a secondary specialist support area at minimum Level
  • Experience of supporting young adults in an education environment
Salaries are based on skills, qualifications and experience.
