The Economist is looking for a talented assistant producer to join the Subscriber Events team.

You will be supporting the Producer/Director to deliver live online events featuring senior journalists from The Economist, aimed at The Economist's 1.1 million subscribers.

You will be part of a team responsible for creating two to three events per month, working closely with senior editors and journalists to produce compelling and insightful live digital events as well as producing pre-recorded elements and post-event videos for a wider audience.


  • Journalism: experience in current affairs, news or documentary broadcast journalism
  • Working as an assistant producer for broadcast, online video production or podcasting
  • Working knowledge of live events or programs
Working closely with the producer/director, the assistant producer will support in the pre-production and delivery of each live event.

They will play a vital role on the day of our live events, liaising with speakers and resolving any last minute or live issues as they arise.

This is a part time, permanent position, split between working remotely and from The Economist's central London office.

Accountabilities:

Main Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Producer/Director with both pre and post production responsibilities of our programme of live online events, including the preparation of scripts, running orders and briefing materials for contributors
  • Coordinating with contributors and production team behind the scenes during the live streaming to resolve any issues swiftly
  • Liaising with journalists setting up content planning meetings, briefing contributors and hosts on live appearances
  • Helping contributors and hosts with technical kit set up, scheduling line tests
  • Briefing, sourcing and supporting the preparation of show graphics
  • On the day operational support, chasing panelists, last minute script changes, further tech set up, live hosting of Zoom output
  • Supporting editorial and marketing teams to triage audience questions as they come in live and shortlisting questions for the script
  • Postproduction support of each event including preparing footage for postevent cuts, distributing video and audio assets when required to other parts of The Economist (eg for podcasts, films, social, news desk, press, marketing, etc.)
  • Helping to further develop the vision for the future of Economist subscriber events
