We are seeking an enthusiastic Technologist or Radiographer to join our mould room and brachytherapy team supporting radiotherapy at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.


This is a developing and progressive service responding to the increasing technical demands of radiotherapy with an extensive range of immobilisation devices and HDR brachytherapy techniques.


This post is one of three band 6 clinical technologists who are responsible for helping to lead, on a rotational basis, one of two teams providing support for the mould room service and brachytherapy preparation and delivery.

You will supervise a small team delivering the clinical service and will be expected to participate in role development and extension.

Brachytherapy is delivered using a HDR after loader and continues to increase in both scope and activity. Currently the centre provides oesophageal, gynaecological and interstitial HDR brachytherapy.

The appointee will participate in the preparation and treatment delivery for all HDR patients, in both theatre and clinical environments.

Mould Room service provides immobilisation devices and continues to develop alongside technical advances in radiotherapy. The Service provides a full range of Custom made devices such as Vivac masks.
Interview Date: 6th June 202- 37 Hours 30 Minutes per a week

  • Assist in the delivery of the technical aspects of Mould room and Brachytherapy services, at the Freeman Hospital site
  • Assists and supports in maintaining and developing high standards of service provision throughout their area of responsibility.
  • Assists in research and developments projects.
  • Contributes to service and staff development
The centre provides a full range of radiotherapy treatments including paediatrics, SABR, TBI, Total Skin Electron Irradiation and IMRT. The Trust has an on-going commitment to equipment replacement and the delivery of a high quality modern radiotherapy service.

  • Within specific areas follow work procedures and deliver safety critical work in an accurate and timely manner.
  • For individual patients manufacture customised immobilisation devices, ensure the device is appropriate for purpose, check the integrity of the device and making it available for clinical use.
  • For individual patients ensure brachytherapy treatments are delivered accurately.
  • Undertake routine quality assurance.
  • Provide advice to other staff on the design and construction of immobilisation devices.
  • Treat patients and carers with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Ensure procedures documented within the radiotherapy department's formal quality management system and are adhered to.
  • Report adverse incidents as appropriate.
