Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Planning Legal Team for a dedicated, enthusiastic and able locum lawyer to join our team.

The primary function of the post will be to advise planning and highway colleagues, draft planning and highway agreementsand deal with planning appeals and high court challenges.

We are looking for a lawyer (solicitor, barrister or FILEX) with a minimum of two years post qualification experience in the legal profession or exceptional experience of shorter duration.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented and ambitious professional to join a highly regarded in-house legal team to help deliver transformational projects, as well as making a real contribution to the quality of life and sustainability of the borough.

We are looking for an individual who is accustomed to working at pace in a busy team.


Requirements:


  • Qualified to practice as solicitor or barrister in England (or comparable jurisdiction) or FILEX qualification
  • At PO3 2 years' post qualification experience in the planning area or exceptional experience of shorter duration, including drafting complex highways and planning agreements and giving legal advice.
  • At PO4 and above 3 years' post qualification experience in the planning area or exceptional experience of shorter duration, including drafting complex highways and planning agreements and giving legal advice
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local government and administrative law
  • Ability to draft negotiate and conclude planning and highways agreements and other legal documentation
  • Ability to review and advise on new legislation, case law and other developments and to make consequential changes to precedent documents
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally and present arguments in a confident, articulate and persuasive manner
  • Ability to give clear and proactive legal advice in a manner which supports clients in meeting their needs and achieving their aims and objectives
  • Ability to assist with the training supervision and development of staff
  • Ability to use information technology for the purpose of casework and the provision of performance information
  • Ability to work as part of a team and develop and maintain good working relations with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to comply with good practice management standards as laid down by the Law Society or other relevant body
  • Ability to adhere to the Client's Dignity for All policy
  • Ability to draft and negotiate and agree complex planning and highway agreements and other documentation
  • Ability to assist with major development projects and attend project meetings
  • Ability to prepare for and act as the Client's advocate at planning inquiries and instruct counsel to appear for the Client
