Our Global Technology Centre


Our new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and development facility.

It acts as a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft.

It offers a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK's CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace's UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK's Industrial strategy.


For a second and consecutive year we have an opportunity to work within the Automated Assembly, Inspection and Metrology team Advanced automated Assembly System Development

Responsibilities:


About The Project:


Throughout the assembly of aero structures, components with complex, irregular geometry must be integrated into assemblies to a high degree of precision.

Historically this has been done with precise and highly expensive tooling. Even with specialist tooling, the quality control process of aero structures is highly skilled, time consuming and costly.

Working with the AAIM (automation, assembly, inspection & metrology) team to deploy state of the art machine vision technologies to automate the assembly and inspection process will give you the opportunity to:

  • Understand the key assembly requirements for complex civil airframe components
  • Work closely with suppliers to specification, procure and test metrology systems
  • Integrate the selected metrology systems into the existing production line
  • Automate the processing of metrology data and implement statistical process control (SPC)


During this placement you can expect the support of a team of research engineers with a wealth and breadth of experience.

We are seeking a self-disciplined and self-motivated individual who is excited by the challenges and opportunities of this project, enjoys autonomy but is also proactive in seeking the advice, support and experience of colleagues and industry experts.


Job Qualifications:


  • Engineering, Physics or Mathematics based courses
