The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is a world first amongst screening programmes and the first to offer screening to both men and women.

The Lancashire Programme commenced in April 2008 and due to continued development and expansion of the service we are looking to appoint full time Specialist Screening Practitioners who will play a key role in supporting patients through the screening process.

We recommend that all individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service should be fully vaccinated against COVID-1- This role will include the delivery of nurse-led and virtual clinics, within the community throughout Lancashire and attendance at screening colonoscopy lists across Lancashire at three different Trusts and accredited sites.

  • You will act as the individuals' advocate, supporting and empowering them and their family to make informed choices and decisions about their screening examination, care, treatment and future participation, through all stages of the screening programme.
  • You will be involved in assessing individuals, making decisions based on the outcomes of your assessment and managing your own caseload.
  • You will participate at colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT's) in the participating individuals' relevant Trust.
  • You need to be able to work well within a team and also work autonomously as an individual.

In addition to its bustling centre and historic seafront, the town is world famous for its many attractions, including the famous Blackpool Tower.

Blackpool also offers a number of scenic cycling routes round our local parks and across the surrounding countryside, as well as boasting panoramic views of the coast on its picturesque Promenade.

Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.

The post will be based at the Stadium Blackpool although frequent and extensive daily motorway travel throughout the Lancashire region will be required.

The post will involve evening and weekend shifts.

You will need to commit to attend the Liverpool John Moores University Specialist Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner Course and be successful in completion of this Certificate of Professional Development.
