We are currently recruiting Band 2 Health Care Support Workers (HCSW) to join our team.

Rainforest Ward is a 24 bedded inpatient children's ward. The ward cares for children and families from birth to 16 years with acute episodes of illness.

Rainforest Ward caters for children and babies with a wide variety of clinical conditions.

The role of the health care support worker is vital in supporting the nursing and medical teams to provide excellent patient care and experience.

Working in a children's area can be a highly emotive environment but there is a good level of support for all staff.


The ward has a dedicated team of medical staff that work closely with the nursing team in ensuring we delivery quality care for children and their families.


As a Health Care Support Worker, you will be a hugely valuable support to our Nursing and Midwifery teams providing care to our patients.

Every day will be different and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks and assisting with care to support the needs of the children and their families.

There are opportunities to expand clinical skills and knowledge, and further training can be offered.

The successful applicant will work alongside registered nurses to support this busy and diverse team.


Applicants must have a flexible approach to shift working, be well organised, have a professional and friendly manner and demonstrate excellent communication skills.

You will be required to work alongside the nursing staff, assisting in the daily duties and you will be ordering equipment and ensuring the ward is well stocked and clean and tidy.

You will also be assisting the nursing staff in obtaining children's weight and height and urine samples if required.


You should be able to use their own judgement to resolve issues, and have a tactful, sensitive approach to dealing with difficult situations.

You should be able to work well under pressure, have a flexible approach to work and a willingness to suggest ideas for improvements.
