Description
The Sanctuary Support Worker will form part of a team providing recovery focussed, compassionate,
dynamic mental health related support to clients accessing Adferiad Recovery's Swansea Sanctuary
Service.

**Responsibilities: - Provide direct support to individuals suffering with various levels of mental illness accessing

the Sanctuary.

  • Facilitate practical interventions such as meals, beverages, washing facilities, emergency
clothing etc.

  • Identify appropriate services and resources based on the individual's presenting needs and
make appropriate referrals and or signposting.

  • Encourage and support clients to access appropriate services and resources as required.
  • Ensure all individuals accessing the Sanctuary are assisted in line with Adferiad Recovery's
Recovery Plan.

  • Provide an out of hours, nonaccommodationbased service offering support between the
hours of 18:00 to 03:00, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

  • Support the needs of adults (aged over 17 years and 9 months) who are in, at the risk of, or at
the point of a social/emotional crisis within the Swansea Bay University Health Board area.

  • Enable individuals to selfmanage and find their own solutions to their own crisis in a non
- judgemental, empathetic, and respectful way.

  • Provide somewhere to turn to for people (and those who have relationships with those)
experiencing social/emotional crisis, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and/or having suicidal
thoughts.

  • Provide a safe space for individuals to deescalate and be supported in a relaxed, welcoming
environment either in a 1-1 setting or an informal group/social setting.

  • Facilitate a communal area where individuals can relax, engage in activities, read a book etc.
either on their own or in the company of others.

  • Provide 11 support sessions focusing on the presenting cause to help the individual find a
way to recover/de-escalate from their immediate cause of crisis.

  • Support individuals in developing a shortterm recovery plan for the proceeding
hours/days/weeks.

  • Develop an individual's resilience through techniques to better selfmanage their crisis.
  • Liaise where appropriate with relevant persons/organisations where individuals can receive
further interventions if needed after the point of de-escalation.

  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure the service is effective,
accountable, and able to promptly identify concerns, taking advice and action to swiftly
address them.

  • Transporting clients accessing the Sanctuary as appropriate.
  • Participate in the oncall rota which includes weekends and public holidays.
  • Ensure corporate policies, procedures and processes are always followed and adhered to.
  • Ensuring service user feedback in the form of compliment, comments and complaints are
encouraged and recorded appropriately.

  • Experience of providing care and support
services to people with serious mental
illness.

services within a social care setting.

  • Previous experience of working within
multi-disciplinary settings.

  • Experience of using a range of self
