We're supporting our client, a leading global equipment manufacturer based in Birmingham, who are looking for a Technical Publications Author to join their growing team.

The successful Technical Publications Author will have experience of developing and maintaining product technical manuals, installation guidelines, service schedules and bulletins, spare parts guides, and other technical support documentation.

Responsibilities for Technical Publications Author:


  • Develop and maintain product technical manuals, installation guidelines, service schedules and bulletins, spare parts guides, and other technical support documentation for the range of products.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams including Engineering, Advanced Product.
  • Development, Aftersales Service and Marketing to gather information and ensure accuracy of technical content.
  • Research and interpret engineering drawings, models, schematics, and specifications to create comprehensive documentation suitable for product support in the field.
  • Manage documentation revisions and updates to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
  • Conduct reviews and audits of technical documentation to identify areas for improvement and ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Convert engineering detail into simple, polished and informative content.
  • Coordinate translation and localization of technical publications for international markets.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve technical documentation processes and standards.
  • Standardise the format and content of our manuals and develop a comprehensive set of documentation.
  • Work with the Aftermarket team to identify and improve our Technical Publications offering to support market expectation.
  • You will be expected to become knowledgeable on all GTS products, although detailed engineering capability is not required.
  • This role will be office based with the option of hybrid / home working. You will need to be professional, technically competent, able to work independently, prioritise and manage workload.
  • To work in a manner conducive to safety and with minimised risk to yourself and others.
  • Actively promote H&S awareness.
  • To report any health and safety matters to your line manager, department representative or H&S Manager
  • To follow company health and safety rules and policies at all times.
  • Training will be given on all internal systems in operation presently to ensure you are capable of reaching the required level of competency.

About You:


  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer or Technical Publications Author in the automotive industry, preferably within the commercial vehicle sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously using a methodical approach.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality in all documentation and motivation to demonstrate "right firsttime approach".
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solid Works) and experience working with engineering drawings and schematics (design skills are not required for this role).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams.
  • Driven to succeed, meeting critical deadlines and motivation for continuous improvement personal development.
  • Qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Refrigerant) or Technical Writing related field would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrable experience in a technical author role.
  • Illustration and authoring software experience.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years of experience in this type of industry.
