These roles offer exciting opportunities within the Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS) team. We're responsible for the assurance of all organizations that design, develop, and modify equipment in the Defence Air Environment.
Our extensive portfolio covers the development of fast jets and helicopters through to uncrewed/remotely piloted air systems (UAS/RPAS), including weapons, engines, and life-saving equipment.
You'll support the management of a portfolio of approx. 25 Organizations located across the UK, USA, and Europe (including directly leading on some of these Organizations yourself).They often make use of innovative technology, and we're responsible for making sure they're developing equipment to recognised standards and practices.
We'll provide you with the necessary audit training to develop you into an Auditor, so that you can effectively undertake your responsibilities.
We'll also give you the appropriate latitude to deliver your objectives, remaining accountable to your manager and the Head of Branch in delivering the DAOS assurance plan.

Job description:
You'll assist in the planning, preparation, conduct and reporting of DAOS assurance activities. Audits and associated assessments are conducted through a mix of desktop reviews of documents and on-site visits. You'll therefore need to occasionally travel to a range of locations across the UK and internationally, when required.
How does the MAA fit into Defence?
Part of the Defence Safety Authority (DSA), the MAA is the organization responsible for the regulation, surveillance, inspection, and assurance of Defence Aviation.
As the single Authority responsible for regulating all aspects of Air Safety across Defence, the MAA has full oversight of all Defence aviation activity.
Through independent audit and continuous surveillance, the MAA strives to provide the Director General DSA (DG DSA), the critical assurance that appropriate safety standards are being maintained, whilst delivering operational capability.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the planning, preparation, conduct and reporting of design assurance activity, including audits.
- Managing a portfolio of Organizations including updates to existing Design Approvals.
- Scrutinizing company documents and procedures with an emphasis on ensuring safe and coherent design processes.
- Recommending resolutions to findings to the desk leads and to Industry Personnel to bring about effective change to the design and development of their products.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the MAA to ensure coherent, effective, and appropriate delivery of assurance and related services.
- Engaging in the development and review of MAA regulation and policy, influencing changes to ensure they remain fitforpurpose and reflect advances in technology and design practices.
- Supporting the overall outputs of the team, including those of the wider MAA, to improve the delivery of our services across Defence.
Person specification:
Experience Requirements
The ideal applicant will have an engineering background within the design or development of military (or civil) aviation equipment. Auditing experience is not required as we will provide the necessary training to develop you in this area.
Professional registration (or the ability to achieve this) to Incorporated Engineer status is desirable. Please note that this element is required as part of the criteria for Recruitment and Retention Allowance.
