Overview of the Forms and Precedents Operations Team:

The Forms and Precedents Operations team sits within Global Forms and Precedents, reporting to the Global Head of Forms and Precedents Editorial Operations, supporting the creation, updating, technical implementation and production/publishing of key documents utilised by lawyers on a day to day basis.

Whether it be a fillable official form, an agreement for sale, or automated will, the team is responsible for over 35,000 individual content items, as well as supporting commentary and other content - published across individual products online through via dedicated portals, via Lexis+ and other Lexis platforms, or in print.


Main purpose of the role:

  • To assist in managing the creation and support of new content and enhancement of existing content for Atkin's Court forms (ACF).
  • To learn and utilise editorial systems in the most effective manner to deliver valuable, accurate legal information speedily to key legal online services and for delivery to print volumes.
  • To support the Forms & Precedents team effectively on both existing tasks and on new content initiatives.
  • To provide editorial support to facilitate the flow of content through the business following a designated process to ensure that required deadlines are met.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working on ACF and related precedents products, using strong communication skills.
  • Editing precedents and related materials with the designated content management system and editorial tools to agreed procedures and processes.
  • Supporting colleagues with editorial and technical writing tasks as required.
  • Working on assigned projects to deliver new ACF and other precedents content projects to agreed timelines and quality.
  • Facilitating an easy and efficient flow of content through the business to meet required deadlines.

ACF editorial duties:

  • Editing in XML or Word: Thorough review of content for sense and conformity to house style both internal and external authoring model incorporating proof reading legal content, style correction and adherence of style guides.
  • Dealing with multiple offshore companies supplying content for ongoing projects
  • Liaison with several teams throughout the business including Atkin's Court Forms, Content Solutions, Business Analysts the project/program team, lawyers, Editorial, Fabrication and Content Acquisition to encourage best practice across the business, where necessary.
  • Uploading new content, adding taxonomy codes and forms information, checking links, owning responsibility for regular uploads.
  • Publishing activities including publishing to online from internal content systems, preparing files for print.
  • Production related tasks, including: framing, uploading documents for third party PDF creation and checking the output; completing design briefs and approving artwork; creating barcodes.
  • Styling documents according to ACF house style in Word and XML.
  • Reports up to manager on progress and risks/issues.
  • Product testing, as required.
  • Basic analytical tasks as required.
  • Any other duties reasonably required.
You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Editorial experience.
  • Law degree or legal qualification desirable plus a strong interest in the law.
  • Handling technical complexity and using professional knowledge to deliver results.
  • Attention to detail and strong customer focus.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive in assisting the business to highlight potential problems before they arise.
  • Using initiative and strong communication skills to resolve issues with team members and more senior colleagues to develop solutions.
  • Interest in legal change and issues affecting the industry desirable.
