Equal Opportunities
At Transport for Wales we value diversity. It makes us stronger, helps us understand our customers better, make better decisions and be more innovative. Everyone's different and has their own perspective so we're building a diverse team that mirrors the communities we serve. Through this we're determined to be one of Wales' leading inclusive employers. We're creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we're on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that's rail, bus, walking or cycling.

We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we're all facing.

We're an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome, and our people are supported to reach their full potential.

We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed.

This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we've made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Placement responsibilities

At Transport for Wales our Conductor Function Team provides 24/7 support for circa 600 Conductors and Guards across our network, comprising 11 depots.

Working on key projects including the electrification and re-signalling of the Core Valley Lines Network, the opening of our brand new Taffs Well Depot, and the introduction of several types of new trains across the network.

All of us can contribute to creating an integrated transport network that improves operations delivery and puts the customer at the heart of the experience.

We're looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for driving operational excellence and delivering exceptional customer service, to join our team for a 12-month placement.

During this placement you'll support the Head of Conductors in a variety of projects and workstreams such as:

  • Investigating the current process and identifying pitfalls that contribute to the un-investigated delays attributed to the conductor function. By conducting a thorough analysis of the current process and collaborating with cross-functional teams you will develop and suggest improvements in process or ways of working to reduce these delays.
  • Improving scanning rates across the team by interrogating the scanning report and highlighting areas for improvement to achieve an agreed target for the company. You will continuously evaluate and refine the process to ensure ongoing improvement, as well as being responsible for monitoring and reporting.
  • Utilising mystery shopper activity to improve on board standards and customer experience by being responsible for implementing a process for sharing, reporting, and providing feedback on all mystery shopper activity. This will involve working closely with the conductor management team to review and share results, as well as collating feedback and actions for review.
  • As part of your wider development, you'll also take part in the Early Talent Development Programme by attending regular workshops and learning sessions with our current grads, apprentices, and interns.

Who we're looking for
We're focussed on finding the right people with the right attributes to join our placement programme.

We're looking for people who are as unique and as individual as you are and can bring our key attributes to life.

Here's what you'll need for this placement.

You'll be:

  • Studying towards or a recent under/post graduate in a Business/Data/Project Management discipline (or similar).

Welsh Language Skills

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills.

We fully support staff who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
