Consultant Clinical Psychologist - Neuropsychologist,
Band 8c, 0.2 WTE Fixed term for 12 months.**This is an exciting opportunity to join the adult neuropsychology team on a fixed term basis. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a track record in the neuropsychology care (assessment and rehabilitation) of adults with neurological conditions and injuries.

Main duties of the job

The primary context of the role is improvement of waiting times to patients on the DBS care pathway.

It is envisaged that the postholder will back-fill the existing neuropsychology resource as it applies additional time to the DBS service for a fixed term.


Under the line-management of the Head of Service and in consultation with the Leads/Head of Neuropsychology Specialism (Adult), to be responsible for the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of a specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and treatment service for adults across the age range, referred by QMC Neurosciences Consultants, their teams and occasionally other specialists.

The key referring Consultants will be from the QMC neuroscience centre, a regional unit for neurosciences, primarily neurology, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation, and neuroradiology.

The successful applicant will be welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the trust.

Currently there are over 30 Clinical Psychologists, and assistant and trainee clinical psychologists working across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust including:

Adult and Paediatric Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neurorehabilitation Services, Stroke, NPH, Adult Medical Outpatient Service, generic paediatrics, Burns (child and adult), Cystic Fibrosis (child and adult), Child Oncology, Cleft Lip and Palate (child and adult), Haematological Cancers, Major Trauma, Neonatal Intensive Care, Non Epileptic Attack Disorder, Renal (adult) and Sickle Cell (child and adult).

We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham and regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Professional doctorate or equivalent qualification in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neuropsychology (Adult).
  • Postgraduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS
Desirable criteria

  • Attendance on a regular basis at highly specialist CPD/training events e.g. those provided by the Critical Care Psychology Special Interest Group.
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist /Neuropsychologist with adults with neurological conditions or injuries for at least 5 years.
  • Experience of conducting and interpreting highly specialist neuropsychological assessments.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision to unqualified clinical psychologists and clinical psychologists in training.
  • Extensive postqualification clinical experience of working with patients with general medical conditions and chronic illnesses.
  • Practicing flexible, integrative psychological therapy with people with long term conditions.
  • Experience of working within a neuropsychology department.
Desirable criteria

  • Experience of representing the profession in local policy.
  • Experience of leadership and management
  • Experience of managing and developing specialist services
  • Experience of rehabilitation techniques specific to neurological impairment.
  • Practicing flexible, integrative psychological therapy with people with long term neurological conditions.
  • Experience of working with the following: epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, Huntingdon's disease, multiple sclerosis, acquired brain injury.
