Mechanical Design Manager

Coventry

My client is a leading manufacturer specialising in bespoke Capital Equipment machinery for well-known companies in the aviation and automotive industry.

They are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Manager to manage the design function abiding by companyand relevant international legislations.


  • Produce designs and drawings on time and within budget to a high quality
  • Implement design strategies, that outline how the design team will create and meet deliverables for the project.
  • Make sure that the teams adopt and make use of standard parts and products.
  • Check that the correct quality & approval procedures are carried out.
  • Ensure technical deliverables are produced within the required timescales
  • Costs are properly managed within the project objectives and change is tightly controlled and scope properly managed.
  • Be up to date with regulations and make sure that the team is compliant with technical and HSE regulations.
  • Maintain TCF & TF for all projects and products.
  • Manage the design budget
  • Manage the strategy for the Vault and CAD software, and always consider the possible links with other parts of the business and how that information can be passed on.

Team Management:


  • Effectively manage a team of engineers, this will include supporting their professional development and conducting performance reviews.
  • Work with the HR department to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ employees.
  • Maintain employee work schedules: assignments, training, annual leave and paid time off, and cover for absenteeism.
  • Report monthly on performance
  • Set KPI's and manage the design goals.

Qualifications/ Experience/ Skills:


  • 10+ years working in a Design
  • Degree in Engineering
  • Experience of design engineering in capital equipment engineering environment minimum of 10 years, ideally within process plant/capital equipment projects environment
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience using Inventor/Vault
  • A minimum of 3 years' managing a team this will include managing development, training, recruitment, and mentoring activities
