Our Education Department develops, resources, delivers and manages the ESU's portfolio of education programmes.

This portfolio encompasses teaching programmes, competitions, awards & scholarships, all of which are focused on giving young people the speaking & listening skills and the cross-cultural understanding they need to thrive.

You will assist the Education team in the effective administration of the ESU's competitions, workshops, academies and wider programmes. You will be the first point of contact for enquiries related to competitions, workshops and other activities.

The main purpose of the role is to carry out and assist in the administration of the ESU's debating and public speaking competitions, Debate Academy, Discover Your Voice workshops and other programmes including:

  • Answering daily communications across multiple shared inboxes, handling incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Highly competent using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Confident using/creating spreadsheets, formulas and handling data.
  • Collating results, feedback, handling school enquiries as competitions progress.
  • Handling the entry and payment process and responding quickly to booking/registration enquiries.
  • Liaise with the ESU's Accounts Department regarding invoicing, mentor pay, expenses and other expenditures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all bookings, mentor status, schools, public feedback and other relevant information.
  • Where appropriate source venues, confirm catering arrangements and other operational requirement regarding Education events.
  • Assist the department in adhoc admin work such as certificate printing, mailouts, preparation and collating of registration and information packs.

Essential for this role are:

  • Good word processing and data management skills and capability in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • A cando attitude with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • A teamplayer who is also able to work independently whilst maintaining a high standard of work.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Knowledge of the UK educational system.
  • Experience of working with volunteers.
  • Experience of working with children and young people.
Normal office hours are 9.30am-5.30pm, however flexible working is a possibility, including some homebased hours.
