Head of Engineering & Maintenance

Cheshire / £55,000 - £65,000 + Good Bonus


You will be working for a global business who are world leader in their field, manufacturing small components operating a 24/7 state-of-the-art facility (call JMT to discuss in more detail).


The purpose of the job:

This is a key appointment on the senior leadership team, focused on leading, organising and improving all aspects of engineering at the Manchester site including.

Working to develop the Engineering Team to drive safeand efficient manufacturing operations whilst defining and embedding 'best practice' standards.

  • Lead all aspects of the Site engineering function, ensuring effective control and development of systems, processes and people.
  • Ensure effective and regular communication with staff and peers to ensure priorities are clear and to maximise manufacturing efficiency.
  • Ensure robust training plans to develop and maintain key engineering skills keeping pace with best practice and latest technologies.
  • Develop methods for measuring engineering performance (including regular performance feedback sessions with teams).
  • Develop and implement world class manufacturing solutions.
  • Plan and manage departmental spend on key resources against budget (labour, materials and equipment) identifying and realising cost improvement opportunities wherever possible.
  • Manage engineering projects (installation / introduction of new equipment and technologies) as required.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of core KPIs to ensure continuous performance improvement: Safety, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Labour Efficiency, Quality Performance and Waste.
  • Develop realtime performance measurement, communication and visual management systems to maximise manufacturing performance.
  • Support and coach staff in Problem Solving, Continuous improvement and Lean techniques to drive manufacturing performance.
  • Focused on leading and continually developing a robust preventative maintenance programme.
  • Develop a datadriven system to ensure proactive replacement plans for capital equipment

Background & experience:


  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar. HND as a minimum.
  • Minimum 5 Years manufacturing experience within a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Track record of successfully managing and developing teams and individuals.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and improving a TPM system.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Datadriven and analytical
