Midland Mencap is seeking to recruit Children & Young People's Care & Support Workers in Worcestershire

Job purpose

To support the CYP Coordinator in the delivery of care packages and short break sessions for children and young people with complex needs.


Key Duties:

  • Maintain a safe, creative and stimulating environment for children and young people's social, leisure and recreational activities.
  • Support children & young people to participate in arts and crafts, games, sports, drama, music, & outings
  • Liaising with the client, family, carer and coordinator to ensure that the service provided is done so in a person centred way.
  • To provide appropriate support and care including personal care in a sensitive and non judgemental way, in accordance with the young person' support plan and respecting the dignity and privacy of the individual at all times.
  • To uphold and understand the rights of the young person supporting them to make individual choices based on their personal needs and preferences.
  • Report, record and monitor the young person' individual progress, through observation and record keeping, reporting any concerns to the Personal Assistant Coordinator in line with Midland Mencap's policies and procedures.
  • Responsibility for attend ongoing training and supervision as pre arranged with your line manager and in accordance with Midland Mencap's policies and procedures.
  • To take the lead for specific tasks as designated by the coordinator.
  • Ensure that all information for a designated group of service users is kept up to date including "All About Me's"/ one page profile's protocols and risk assessments
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young person by proactively managing safeguarding principles and practises.
  • Be aware and respond to health and safety issues
  • Follow financial and administrative procedures as directed by the Coordinator
  • Follow first aid procedures and keep records of all accidents, incidents and treatment give
  • Ensure appropriate professional boundaries with all young people, parents and carers, staff and volunteers are maintained across the service
  • Be available to work flexible hours citywide
  • Participate in planned regular meetings with the CYP Coordinator and other Midland Mencap colleagues.
  • Any other duty as appropriate to the role and identified by the organisation.

Person Specification

  • Be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS
  • Ability to use person centred approaches to plan & deliver social, leisure and recreational opportunities for services users with learning disabilities and complex needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and service users
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Have held a position of responsibility

Experience and knowledge:

  • To work as part of a team
  • Demonstrate an ability to motivate and encourage children and young people with complex needs to participate in activities
  • Show an understanding of alternative methods of communication that could be used with nonverbal service users.
  • To plan and deliver creative programmes to meet individual levels of ability and need
  • Willing to undertake further training
  • Be able to participate in sports and other physicals activities
  • Demonstrate an ability to work on own initiative
  • Demonstrate leadership skills

Essential additional skills:

  • Have a current driving licence with access to own transport

Desirable additional skills:

  • Be qualified in First Aid
  • Be able to speak an additional community language

Job Type:
Part-time


Salary:
£10.90 per hour
