Band B point 17 to point 21 (£22,338 - £25,262) pro rata, FTE

Actual Gross Salary based on a full academic year (£9,706.72
- £10,977.31)


Hours: 7.5 hours per day, 3 days a week. Hours to be discussed


Responsible to:
Medical Centre Manager


Main purpose:
Key to the smooth running of St Andrew's Lodge medical centre (SAL), the post holder will support the Medical Centre Manager and nurse on duty in the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate medical and pastoral care of the pupils at Wells Cathedral School

Key duties and responsibilities


Clinical

  • Welcome pupils, staff and external visitors into SAL, informing clinical staff of their arrival
  • Assist the daily running of SAL and caring for unwell/injured pupils
  • Welcome and triage pupils according to medical need, informing the clinical team member on duty of those needing clinical care and addressing the needs of those pupils that don't
  • Administer nonprescription medication in accordance with the schools medical guidelines and National Minimum Standards under the direction of the Clinical team member on duty
  • Prepare ice and /or heat packs for pupils as required
  • Carry out observations including pulse, blood pressure, temperature when necessary and report any concerns to the Clinical team member on duty
  • Attend to the medical needs of boarding pupils who are unwell within SAL and boarding houses under the supervision of the Clinical team member on duty
  • Be responsible for administering prescribed medication which are necessary to be taken by pupils during the school day under the supervision of the Clinical team member on duty
  • Support pupils and communicate any concerns to the Clinical team member on duty
  • Keep detailed records of all medication and care administered
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained in line with GDPR and safeguarding policies
Administrative

  • Answering and passing on phone calls and messages accurately and as appropriate
  • Assisting the domestic organisation of SAL
  • Undertaking adhoc duties and errands, for example collecting prescription requests as required
  • Liaising with School staff, the GP Surgery and other clinics as required
  • Assisting in the running of SAL in the absence of the Medical Centre Manager and nurses while remaining in touch via mobile phone
  • Confidential data entry onto School systems as appropriate and directed
  • Attend team and school meetings
  • Assisting with the display of health promotion material in SAL and around the School

Pastoral:

  • Assisting with admission, transfer and discharge of pupils within SAL
  • General care, including bed changing/making, assisting with pupils' daily hygiene needs when in SAL
  • Assisting with collection, preparation and serving of meals
  • Escorting pupils to hospital, dental and other appointments
  • Chaperoning and escorting patients in SAL to clinics, ambulances and other medical settings as required
  • Monitoring pupils when resident in SAL and informing clinical staff as needed
  • Providing high quality pastoral care for pupils and staff

Other:

  • Ensuring that all faults or necessary repairs to furniture and equipment are reported appropriately and the Medical Centre Manager is informed
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and tidy environment in SAL
  • On the spot cleaning to help prevent spread of infection or incidents (this can occasionally involve wiping up bodily fluids)
  • Any other task as reasonable requested by the Medical Centre Manager

  • Understand and respect the appropriate level of confidentiality of all aspects of pupil care maintaining the confidentiality of information about patients, guests, staff and other School business
  • Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of Wells Cathedral School
  • Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times
  • To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection
