We are looking for an experienced Costs Assessor to join the Costs team to be based in our Edinburgh office.

The Role


To work with Partners and other employees within the team to provide clients with an in house Law Accountancy service.


Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Judicial Accounts in accordance with the rules of court and the tables of fees set down by the Law Society of Scotland.
  • Negotiating third party costs with external Law Accountants and Solicitors by correspondence, telephone or face to face meetings.
  • Preparation of Points of Objection.
  • Attendance at diets of Taxation at the Court of Session and all Sheriff Courts in Scotland.
  • Answer internal and external enquiries in relation to judicial accounts, negotiation of third party costs, estimates of likely costs and deal with any ad hoc enquiries.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working within a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of Court of Session and Sheriff Court rules and Law Society of Scotland's Tables of Fees.
  • Elite Enterprise and Microsoft packages particularly Word.
  • Understanding of case management systems in particular Visualfiles.
  • Confident and positive approach when communicating with staff of all levels, opponents and Auditors of Court.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and to prioritise accordingly.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent team player and a proven solver.
  • Willingness to be flexible as and when volume of business dictates.
