Context and overview of role


The aim of the Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics Programme is to shape diplomatic coalitions and strategies to build the global institutions and political will to drive faster climate action.

This role will sit at the heart of the Programme's work on tracking diplomatic developments and building coalitions around shared diplomatic strategy to reach agreement to new and ambitious climate policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute research undertaking short pieces of political analysis and help draft internal and external communications materials, e.g., policy briefings, reports, social media content.
  • Support the team with the organisation of convenings of government and nonstate actor stakeholders on diplomatic strategy including in person and hybrid workshops, roundtables, webinars and public events.
  • Monitor political developments around multilateral and plurilateral meetings and coalitions (e.g., the BRICS, BASICS) and in Leaders' and Ministers' speeches and provide updates to E3G teams, as well as to external stakeholders.
  • Support coordination with other E3G teams to deliver our shared strategy around multilateral and plurilateral meetings including the G7, G20, COPs, UN General Assembly and associated meetings, and the IMF/World Bank springs and annual meetings.
  • Participate in civil society networks to share E3G thought leadership on diplomatic strategy for upcoming multilateral moments with colleagues across the climate community
  • Perform administrative support activities to facilitate internal/external engagement efforts.
  • Support the work of the Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics department and collaborate on team management and activities.
Experience and skills

  • They should demonstrate attention to detail combined with the ability to analyse complex information to create highlevel summaries.
  • An undergraduate degree, and ideally a post graduate degree, in a relevant discipline where possible. This could include politics, social sciences, economics, finance, climate change, environment or international relations.
  • Relevant professional experience and track record in a relevant setting e.g., political, policy or research in government or international institution, civil society, think tank or research institute.
  • A good working understanding of global climate governance landscape.
  • Quantitative data analysis skills for analysis and data visualization are highly desirable.
  • Very strong written and spoken communication skills and impeccable written and spoken English. Other languages would be an advantage.
Further details

This role is offered on a 1 year fixed-term basis with the possibility of further extension. This role is located in London.

E3G operates a flexible working environment, with staff expected to come to the office at least twice a week on average.

A remuneration package competitive with the non-profit sector will be offered. Salary according to E3G researcher band (£27,000 to £31,998) and depending on experience and qualifications.
