An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Assistant Head of Operations to come and work within the Surgery Divisional Management Team at Broadgreen Hospital.


You will work directly with the Divisional Head of Operations, Divisional Medical Director, and Matrons for surgery to ensure smooth day-to-day running of service, support the delivery of projects, and contribute towards our financial improvement plans.


The post holder will require excellent leadership and communication skills to support partnership working across the division, the wider LUHFT and with external partners including commissioners, working together to deliver effective operational and change management for the hospital and its patients.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.


The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.


It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.

In addition to supporting the delivery of the overall Divisional strategy, the Deputy Head of Operations will take operational responsibility for leading the administration teams, being responsible for budgets and writing local policies.

Proactively providing solutions to resolve operational issues in accordance with agreed Divisional objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints.


The Deputy Head of Operations will have management experience in overseeing the performance of teams and will possess personal qualities and skills to deal completely with operational issues.


The Deputy Head of Operations will implement patient centred operational strategy and plans, advising the Divisional Leadership team and ensuring that systems and processes are in place and adhered to.

The Deputy Head of Operations will lead plans and strategies for delegated services.


The Deputy Head of Operations will take forward strategic direction and policy setting for the Division within the context set by the Divisional Leadership team, maintaining an essential communications link between the Division, and relevant external organisations.


The Deputy Head of Operations will have oversight of the Division's overall budgets and take the lead on a designated budget for a service within the Division.

They will manage work streams within identified schemes to ensure achievement of the CIP target.

The post holder has line management responsibility for the operational managers within the Division.

Demonstrate management skills to ensure that staff and stakeholder engagement is reflected in the decision-making process.


The Deputy Head of Operations will provide a visible and accessible presence to ensure delivery of the Divisional overall objectives and service priorities.
