Council Tax Accounts Officer - Revenue Services
It is key more than ever for Local Authorities to maximise their income with the effective administration of taxes.

An important role at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets has become available as Council Tax Accounts Officer within the Revenue Services department.


The role involves administering changes to properties and accounts, agreeing payment options and terms and the issuing of revised bills and refunds, as well as assisting our residents and local property owners by giving quality advice in person, over the phone and in writing.


This role will be based at the new Town Hall Whitechapel, but on completion of training may benefit from a hybrid working pattern including home working.

With a minimum 2 days a week office team working.

We are looking for Enthusiastic self
- motivated individual to join our busy team. Previous experience in a Council Tax, Business Rates and Income Accounts Team role would be beneficial but other transferable skills are essential including.


  • At least a basic understanding of Council Tax including, who is liable to pay, how you can pay and what discounts, exemptions, benefits, or reliefs are available.
  • Have a keen eye for detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to deal with customer enquiries both over the phone and in writing. Having the ability to use plain English to communicate simply and concisely with our customers.
  • Being an ambassador for our core TOWER Values, being committed to delivering the best work for all customers, colleagues and willing to go the extra mile.
  • The ability and wish to learn the necessary legislation and regulations that covers the collection and administration of Council tax and the complexities of this.
  • Experience of delivering a customer and solution focused service and dealing with customers,
  • Experience of prioritising workloads to meet strict and critical deadlines and working as a team.

The appointee will need to pass a standard DBS check (criminal record check) prior to appointment.

The interview will be held in person at the Town Hall in the week starting 31st July 2023.
