Description

The Children's Services at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to providing outstanding care and this is something we are extremely proud of.

We are a friendly, enthusiastic and innovative team who strive to do the best for every child, young person and their family.

We have an exciting opportunity for a substantive Matron position within our Women and Children's Services.

As one of two matrons within the division the post holder will be a key member of the senior nursing team and provide professional and supportive leadership for the nursing teams within the division.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides extremely comprehensive Paediatric and Neonatal services. The Paediatric service operates across two hospital sites (Watford and Hemel Hempstead).

Our service configuration is an acute Paediatric Inpatient Ward (includes an HDU bay), Children's Emergency Department (CED), Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU), Paediatric Day-care and Paediatric Outpatients across two sites.

To be successful in this post you will need to have significant experience in acute paediatric nursing and children's emergency care.

You will demonstrate an ability to provide strong, visible clinical and managerial leadership.

You must have proven current management and leadership experience in an acute hospital setting and demonstrate the ability to implement effective change.

You will need to demonstrate that you have excellent negotiation, interpersonal and decision-making skills.

In addition the successful post holder will provide outreach for young people aged years old who have been admitted to the adult inpatient clinical areas.

There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are planned as part of the New Hospital Programme.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

The trust has recently gained 'teaching hospital' status which reflects the dedicated work of many teams and individuals who have set the standard for delivering high quality training, learning and education at all levels of the workforce.

We encourage and welcome people with disabilities. If you need help, please ask.

You will work collaboratively with the neonatal matron and the wider Trust matron team in delivering the Trust wide nursing agenda.

You will also participate in the senior nurse on call rota.

Close professional links are also encouraged with our Neonatal and Maternity services to enhance a seamless quality led pathway of care for babies and their families.

There is an expectation to work with external partners across the region (Paediatric Critical Care ODN, CCGs and ICS).

This is a time of significant change in the Women and Children's Division and the Trust with the implementation of EPR and the redevelopment of the new hospital and as a result we continue to build and positively strengthen many aspects of our paediatric service.
