As an Activities Coordinator on Eastwood Ward Stroke Unit you will help to create a stimulating environment for our patients.

You will devise imaginative, fun and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability.

You will need to be diplomatic in your approach to persuade reluctant patients to participate in activities as part of their rehabilitation.

You will spend time getting to know the patients and create activity programmes to maximise wellbeing, independence and social engagement to compliment the patient's rehabilitation.

Due to the disabilities a stroke can cause you will need to ensure activities created and being used to help with a patient's rehabilitation can be suited to allow patients with weakness and speech impairments to also participate and can be tailored to meet their needs.

We also have the use of a stroke garden which has just undergone a revamp this year and part of the role will be to encourage patients to use the stroke garden and ensure this is maintained and activities can be completed in here when the weather permits.

The stroke unit also holds fundraising events throughout the year (Summer garden party, Christmas carol concert etc) and part of the activities role is to help organises these events and ensure previous patients of the unit have been invited to these.

The Activities Co-ordinator although part of the Stroke Unit Team is a stand alone position so will offer opportunities to own and develop the role so requires somebody with a confident and proactive personality.

Moving and Handling of patients is also a requirement of this role. after appropriate training as you will be transporting patients to their activity.
