We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to help develop a new research program to study bacterial communities in infection and commensalism by electron cryotomography (cryoET).

This role will creatively use microbiological, fluorescence microscopy and electron cryomicroscopy experiments, adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and data processing protocols.

An important aspect of this role is helping with project management and contributing new ideas, collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles, and helping more junior members of the group.

This post will have access to excellent cryoEM facilities at the Central Oxford Structural and Molecular Imaging centre (COSMIC) including a Titan Krios, Talos Arctica, Talos F200C and Zeiss Crossbeam 350 with Leica cryostage, and associated peripheral equipment, as well as excellent fluorescence microscopy facilities via Micron in the Department of Biochemistry.


This full-time fixed-term post is funded by Academy of Medical Sciences for up to 18 months in the first instance and is based at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.


This position is graded on the University's Grade 7 scale, for which the salary range is £35,308 - £43,155 per annum.

The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
