We are seeking to appoint a passionate, caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work in the Junior School on a 1:1 basis providing support within the classroom environment for a Year 5 pupil with specific educational needs. You will enjoy working with children, be incredibly flexible, willing to adapt to the ever-changing needs of a busy Junior school environment and be excited at the prospect of making a real difference in a child's life

Hours: 30.00 hours per week (Monday to Friday 8.40am to 3.40pm)


Working Weeks: 35 weeks per year (Term time plus training Days)

JOB PURPOSE
Pitsford School is a co-educational independent school for pupils aged years old.

The school offers a very attractive working environment based in delightful rural parkland setting of some 30 acres close to Northampton city centre.


SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
Under the overall direction of the Headmaster but line-managed by the Head of the Junior

School, the post holder's responsibilities are:

  • Develop a secure knowledge of the learning support needs of the child and how to implement strategies
  • Liaise with the SENDCO and assisting and contributing information to relevant meetings and regular updates as required, including annual EHCP and IEP reviews, school reports as well as progress and the effectiveness of interventions and strategies implemented
  • Work closely with the class teacher to provide a stimulating learning environment and assist the class teacher with the implementation of their lesson planning, the management and preparation of resources and the effective pastoral care of the child they are supporting

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The post holder will have the skills and capability to develop a constructive relationship with all pupils, in particular the child they will be working with as well as their parents, encouraging their involvement in all aspects of the child's development at school
  • To promote the inclusion of named pupil within a classroom environment
  • Support the child's social as well as academic development
  • Develop methods of promoting/reinforcing the children's selfesteem
  • Liaise with teachers, regarding the progress of the individual child
  • Willing to communicate with the parents on a regular basis
  • Identify where the child is struggling, e.g. engaging with a particular topic, and support them in understanding the information and complete the work
  • Encourage all members of staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to pupils with SEND
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, in line with the School's behaviour policy feeding back any concerns to the class teacher
  • Keep relevant members of staff informed about any matters that affect the child.
  • Keep a thorough log of all intervention notes

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend regular safeguarding training and understand safeguarding responsibilities in line with the current updated statutory guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
  • Attend relevant inservice training and occasional staff meetings.
  • Supervise children at break times as needed. Help children acquire strategies for coping with the playtime environment; making sure that they are safe, obeying the playtime rules and learning the arts of cooperation and fair play
  • Accompany and assist on school visits and outings as well as in the running of activities and events held at School
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including break times and at lunchtimes in the Dining Hall, encouraging healthy eating and good table manners
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by teaching staff
  • Supervise pupils' work and offer support where necessary
  • Monitor the needs and behaviour of pupils, and report these to teaching staff where appropriate
  • Undertake pupil record keeping as requested, e.g. taking registers
  • Model a good attitude to school life to all pupil

Education and Qualifications:

  • Good level of education to Grade C or above in English and Maths
  • Essential
