Cosy is a rapidly growing company who develops, sources and markets innovative and collaborative educational resources and equipment for the use in schools and nurseries.

We are continuing to look for further growth opportunities and need to ensure that we can continue to support the business through the availability of product and management of inventory to achieve our objectives.


Cosy purchases approximately 4,000 product lines per year, and the Purchasing Team has the responsibility for ensuring availability, purchasing at the lowest cost whilst ensuring quality standards are maintained and on time delivery is achieved.


Job Purpose


To be based within the Purchasing Department, you will be a key member of the department, responsible for supporting the introduction of new, innovative products as well as the maintenance of stock levels of current products by managing UK and International suppliers to improve 'On Time In Full' performance.

To acquire, at optimal cost and lead-times, all external purchases to support the business.


To identify low cost alternatives for current products without compromising quality or availability to offer continuity of supply to our customers.


Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting Product Management by sourcing suppliers for our own developed, bespoke products ensuring the best cost and quality are achieved
  • Management of supplier OTIF by reviewing and implementing improvement plans, negotiating service level agreements and monitoring performance
  • Deliver cost reduction initiatives, delivering sustainable gross margin improvements through negotiation and resourcing of product through global sourcing
  • Develop, communicate and implement sourcing strategies and supplier base
  • Sourcing of new suppliers ensuring conformance to quality standards and expectation
  • Audit supply chains and conduct risk management for supply chain suitability
  • Continuous improvement focus on supply chain best practice, focusing heavily on improving customer satisfaction
  • Negotiate contracts and tenders with suppliers
  • Continuous review of products working with Product Design and suppliers to reengineer products delivering improved product and costs
  • Negotiation of annual cost prices to reduce the impact of increases on the overall margin of the business reviewing all areas of impact on product costs
  • Actively review the supply base to rationalise and build a strategic, reliable and efficient supply base
  • Represent external supply in internal meetings
  • Production of supplier performance and improvement reporting

Impact and Influence
The Buyer reports directly to the Director of Buying and NPD.

Cosy is continuing to rapidly grow and the Purchasing Team needs to ensure that it continues to be able to support the company's objectives through ensuring low cost product that matches all quality and product standards.


In order to ensure reduced costs and product availability, a programme is underway of negotiation with key suppliers and resourcing product globally.

However, it is also essential that conformance to product quality and on time delivery is maintained.


The diverse range of products offered by Cosy is purchased from over 400 suppliers and the volatile seasonal demand means that responding quickly to change is a prerequisite for success.

It is essential that the Buyer demonstrates enthusiasm and is self-motivated as they will have to identify their own opportunities and ensure full completion of all initiatives.


The Buyer will be monitored and evaluated on their ability to aid in the achievement of the departments KPIs in order to fulfil the expectations of Cosy's customers.


Knowledge Skills and Experience

Essential:


  • Good technical skills, including confident use of Microsoft Office
  • 3 years Purchasing experience within a fast moving environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to work closely with and influence others (Product Managers, Suppliers as well as line managers, peers and direct reports where required)
  • Successful management of numerous global suppliers, building strong relationships and partnerships
  • The ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Sourcing new products from suppliers using technical drawings provided

  • Ability to travel 68 times per year
  • Working towards CIPS qualification
  • Experience in the Educational product industry
  • Knowledge / experience of operational processes
  • Experience of mail order operation
  • Junior manmanagement experience
  • Import and export from European countries
  • Languages (Lithuanian, Polish, Russian)
