Overview:
Applications are invited for a Modern Apprentice within the Planning and Research Division of the Offshore Wind Directorate.
The Offshore Wind Directorate was formed on 1 April 2023 and leads on the development of policy related to offshore renewables, marine energy and sectoral marine planning.
Our aim is to support the continued growth of offshore wind, wave and tidal sectors and development of Scotland's supply chain by growing our manufacturing base and attracting inward investment.
Our aim is to drive the benefits from the growth of offshore renewables for Scotland's economy, citizens and environment as we transition to net zero.
We support the development of Scotland's supply chain by growing our manufacturing base and attracting inward investment, demonstrating the potential role for marine energy in Scotland's low carbon energy system and managing the environmental impacts of, and risks to, Scotland's journey to net zero through offshore renewables.
This post is an exciting opportunity to work in a very interesting and challenging area of the Scottish Government (SG) and the Planning and Research Division are driving forward a high priority area of work.
The post will support in the delivery of planning, research and legislation workstreams supporting streamlined consenting to enable delivery of Offshore wind in Scotland and the wider benefits of change to environmental assessments across the SG.
The role holder will work in a supportive environment where staff are valued, have ownership of their work and are encouraged to develop themselves and the team.
Eligibility for Modern Apprentice:
- The recruitment of Modern Apprentices is a fair, open and merit based process (16+) and with permanence from the start of the apprenticeship.
- Previous Modern Apprentices in the SG are not eligible to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Providing secretariat support.
- Note and minute taking.
- Helping with project planning.
- Inputting into divisional asks.
- Assisting with record and programme management.
- Building and maintaining good working relationships with professional colleagues both internally and externally, working collaboratively with colleagues to maintain mailboxes within the Division.
- Managing your own workload and ensuring your tasks are completed timeously and accurately.
- Becoming proficient in all tasks carried out by the team and taking on ad hoc long and/or short term tasks to support the team or colleagues in the Directorate, as and when required, including providing cover for colleagues to maintain the overall resilience of the team.

- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
- Ability to use standard software packages (MS Office Suite).

- Ability to work as part of a team or individually as required.
Location
This post will be offered on a location flexible basis, with hybrid working being the current arrangement. Regular travel to Edinburgh/Glasgow will be required for in person team meetings.

Minimum Time in Post
You will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of three years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade.
