Description
This is an exciting seven-month fixed term locum post within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Respiratory team.

The post-holder will contribute to general respiratory and sleep clinics at Charing Cross Hospital (
CXH) and TB/respiratory infection clinics at St Mary's Hospital (
SMH) as well as Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) at
SMH.


The post-holder will also contribute to the acute medical take at
CXH and participate in the respiratory ward consultant rota at
CXH, which includes the care of patients with acute primary respiratory failure requiring non-invasive ventilation on the newly refurbished Acute Respiratory Unit at
CXH.


This post-holder will support acute medicine on the Charing Cross site, which delivers a consultant-led service for all patients admitted under Acute Medicine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, meeting the national standards for the provision of acute medical services and the 2013 London Quality standards.

All commitments other than the acute take are cancelled during acute medicine commitments.


The ward areas covered by Acute Medicine/Acute Take are the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) on the Marjory Warren Ward and the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU).

There are 32 beds on AMU, 20 of which have cardiac monitors. The Acute Assessment Unit has 20 beds and accepts both medical and surgical patients.

The Acute Respiratory Unit (ARU) is embedded within the 4 South Respiratory Ward and has 5 beds including one side room.

The post-holder will contribute to general respiratory and sleep clinics at Charing Cross Hospital (
CXH) and TB/respiratory infection clinics at St Mary's Hospital (
SMH) as well as Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) at
SMH.


The department has a mixture of clinicians, academics, nurse specialists, specialist physiotherapists, Respiratory physiologists and administrative staff who work closely together.

There are close links with the Infectious disease/HIV team and with the radiology, microbiology, histopathology and cytology departments.


The hospital is part of the wider Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust along with the Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital.

Some services operate across all sites and there are close links between the Respiratory physicians within the trust.

There are 12 Consultant Respiratory physicians plus a Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant who lead the acute respiratory and general medical inpatient teams


There are two inpatient Respiratory teams, together forming one of five medical firms who participate in the acute medical take and manage admitted patients.

Each team is staffed from a pool of 4 SpRs/STs; 4 SHO grade doctors (2 FY2, 2 IMT) and 4 FY1s.

Staffing varies according to annual leave, study leave and on call commitments but each team will have a minimum of 1 SpR grade and an other staff members at all times.

During acute medicine, all other clinical commitments are cancelled. Respiratory ward commitments never overlap with acute medicine commitments.
