Your mission
As an Environmental Advisor, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Local advice in establishing, implementing and maintaining project level EMS
  • Review of Project Execution Plans to ensure they meet the relevant standards and that suitable PEPs are in place
  • Attending and providing input and guidance at divisional and support department review meetings as appropriate
  • Mentoring and coaching of project based environmental staff
  • Supporting the investigation of environmental incidents and advising on appropriate actions
  • Maintaining a level of internal compliance and external vendor audits as required
  • Providing guidance to managers in evaluation of vendors when requested
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of internal environmental/sustainability training
  • Developing and delivering local training activities as required
  • Maintain company environmental databases as required
  • Undertaking a minimum number of internal site environmental inspections as required based on risk
  • Identifying and communicate best practice and promote continued improvement throughout the Company
  • Review method statements
  • Working in accordance and remaining up to date with current established Company procedures and processes and providing feedback on their continuing effectiveness

Who are we looking for?

The following are mandatory requirements:

  • Awareness and understanding of regulatory, legislative and company requirements with regards environmental management
  • Good working knowledge of the ISO14001 standard
  • Technical qualification in Environmental Management or significant experience working in an environmental role
  • Associate member of IEMA (or similar) and working towards Full Member and/or Chartered Environmentalist
  • Experience of working within a team both colocated and operating remotely
  • Articulate and engaging communication skills

The following are desirable requirements:

  • Good working knowledge of the civil engineering industry
  • Qualified as an environmental auditor
  • Experience in training, coaching and mentoring to environment staff and other key roles within the business
  • Strong connections and involvement with industry forum groups and trade bodies
  • Commercial awareness and understanding
  • Collaborative and supportive behaviours
