The Role:


Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Engineering, t he Associate Director of Facility Services will be the primary stakeholder to managing all of Moderna's Lab Services on-site service vendors.

This role is seen as the primary lead to manage stakeholder relationships and to execute on global and local strategies, which align with the stakeholder business strategies.

This role will immediately support Research & Development (R&D), Technical Development and Manufacturing.


Here's What You'll Do:

Responsible for managing and developing a holistic vendor strategy, with a primary goal of driving improved vendor performance.

This will be achieved by setting and monitoring appropriate expectations with vendors, proposing, developing and utilizing insightful analytics, and executing vendor contracts.


Develop a plan for "full-service" vendor managed engagement with appropriately balanced considerations of the specialized business need and established architecture strategies, processes and standards.


Has primary responsibility and oversight into services management and will need to ensure that all services are effectively delivered, and facility/lab needs are met.

Ensures any project implementation is provided in a manner consistent with Moderna's values.

Responsible for managing the operating budget of this spend and ensure compliance

Responsible for the creation, implementation and review of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with all in-scope vendors. KPIs might include; operation metrics, savings, preferred supplier adherence, etc.

Contributor to major projects and initiatives such as site space planning, CAPEX requests and digital improvements

Leads cross-functional integrations, to ensure quality, complaint, timing and cost element compliance.

Develops strategies to effectively support and scale the operations organization.

Proactively communicates with lab and manufacturing-based employees to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.

Identifies and implements continuous improvement process to scale with Moderna's growth and effectively manage all aspects of facility operations.

Identifies and implements standardized / best practice processes that create maximum efficiencies.

Input into performance measurements for internal benchmarking for Moderna sites.

Enforces processes and introduces new ways to help lab function more efficiently.

Interface with global colleagues on all operational issues including purchasing, lab maintenance, best practices, etc.


Review lab layouts and contracting building / renovations to ensure it matches Moderna's needs for both today and into the future.

This position will be the first level of contract for service / operational issues with the vendor.

This position will assist with onboarding/offboarding and transition of new vendors.


Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering required.

Master's degree preferred.

Minimum 10 years of Facilities and/or Engineering experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries required. GMP facility experience preferred.

Excellent negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are required. Expected to be able to present work to peers and cross-functional managers and influence leadership decisions. Technical writing skills required.


Must be able use his/her technical background to investigate issues using a structured problem-solving approach to determine true root cause and develop effective corrective and preventative actions.

Must be able to be able to find true root cause and path forward for complex problems. Demonstrates strategic enterprise thinking, finding innovative ways to deliver results and build trust.


Must possess outstanding communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with enterprise-wide information systems for effective stakeholder management and communication.


Ability to interact well with other groups and must be able to take ownership of and follow through on assignments.

Must be able to drive results on multiple complex assignments simultaneously with mínimal required direction from his/her supervisor.

Experience with Delta Controls (Enteliweb) and Siemens (Desigo) systems preferred.

Familiarity with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required, and basic statistical analysis techniques are preferred.

Ability to represent Moderna's interests, objectives, and policies in a professional and responsible manner.
