Become a University Fellow, Become Unstoppable


Building on our strong REF2021 performance, the University of Salford is making a major investment in outstanding early career researchers.

We are recruiting a total of 20 new University Fellows, across our four Schools. These prestigious appointments areaimed at fostering world-leading research and innovation, in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Fellows will be on a clear pathway to building an outstanding track record of research, innovation and impact. They will complement and extend research within defined areas of our portfolio; building novel activity.

The scheme focusses on research in thefirst two years and over time the Fellows will take up an increasing portfolio of core academic activities, including teaching and academic leadership.

Within the School of Science, Engineering and Environment we are looking for talented individuals to join us who can advance our research in the following areas:


  • Acoustics: sound, vibration, perception


  • Advanced Materials

  • Low Carbon Energy Transition
  • Complex Systems Modelling
  • Digital Science
  • Energy and Buildings
  • Unlocking Data for Homes and their Occupants
  • Building Performance in an Energy Systems Transition
  • Environmental Pollution
  • New Methods for Cardiovascular Disease
  • Infection, AMR and Future Treatments


  • Neurodegenerative Diseases

  • Better Understanding, and New Treatments
  • Radical Urban Sustainability: Upscaling City Farming
  • Future Transportation and Logistical Systems

What is in it for you


Fellows will be recruited as a cohort beginning in August 2023 and will be supported to achieve their research and leadership ambitions through dedicated mentoring from academic leaders, peer support and a bespoke development programme aimed at providingthe skills required for research and teaching leadership.

In addition, Fellows will be awarded a start-up grant of £30K to establish their research.
